The new Brabus ML W166 Mercedes-Benz Tuning Program Exposed

Exclusive, efficient, and eco-friendy.

Brabus has been at the forefront of aftermarket companies in terms of eco-friendly performance. Their newest example of green power and unmatched exclusivity is the W166 Mercedes-Benz M-Class. Instead of some high-horsepower, gas-guzzling conversion, Brabus has created an efficient, stylish, and luxurious 4×4 SUV.

The brand new W166 generation M-Class from Mercedes-Benz is sleeker and more modern than its predecessor. Brabus has developed an OEM quality PUR-R-RIM plastics body kit to give the SUV a sportier appearance. The front bumper features a new Brabus ‘On Road’ spoiler and air intake attachments. Each side of the Brabus ML W166 wears new side skirts with entrance lights underneath the body that light up by using the keyless remote or by pulling the door handle. The keyless remote can also turn on the Brabus fender and sill logos. At the rear of the ML sits a new rear spoiler atop the liftgate and two different kinds of Brabus ‘On Road’ fascias depending on the engine choice.

The exterior of the Brabus ML W166 was then finished off with a new set of wheels. Brabus offers cast Monoblock wheels in VI, E, and Q designs with diameters ranging from 18 to 22 inches. The biggest wheels offered are massive 10J x 22 inch size. In addition to the lineup of cast wheels, customers can also order forged Brabus Monoblock G “Platinum Edition” wheels in the same 10J x 22 size. To go along with the upgraded fitment, Brabus offers Continental, Pirelli, or Yokohama tires in 295/30 ZR 22 size.

The Brabus ML W166 can be outfitted with the latest suspension and brake upgrades for better performance. Those equipped with the conventional suspension can be given an upgrade developed alongside Bilstein that lowers the ride height by 30 mm (1.2 inches). For M-Classes equipped with the stock air suspension, Brabus can install a module that lowers the ride height by 30 to 40 mm. In addition to the suspension, the brakes can be upgraded with fade-resistant, high-performance units. The upgraded system features six-piston aluminum calipers and 405 x 34 mm cross-drilled discs at the front, and four-piston calipers with 380 x 28 mm discs at the rear.

The focus for Brabus with the Mercedes-Benz M-Class was the ML350 BlueTEC 4MATIC and its V-6 diesel engine. Brabus developed a PowerXtra DS6 plug-and-play module for the 3.0-liter V-6 engine that keeps emissions under the same EURO IV class as the stock model. With the PowerXtra DS6 module, the Brabus ML W166 gets a power boost to 306 horsepower at 3,600 RPM and 509 lb-ft. of torque from 1,600 to 2,400 RPM. This added power helps the 4×4 SUV accelerate to 62 mph in six seconds flat and reach a top speed of 142 mph (229 km/h).

As with all Brabus tuning programs the interior can be transformed with fine leather, special wood and custom stitching. New accessories such as matte-anodized aluminum pedals and door pins, stainless steel scuff plated with illuminated Brabus logos, and new foot rests can be installed. Customers can design their interior with Masktik leather, alcantara, fine wood, carbon trims, and new surface finishes.

The Brabus ML W166 tuning program is currently available as a complete car or individual accessories. Currently, the German tuner is developing upgrades for the other engines offered in the M-Class. Pricing has not been released.
