The ABT AS6 Avant is one sporty Family Hauler

Over 35 years of experience packed into the wagon.

Tuning the Audi A6 Avant is nothing revolutionary for ABT Sportsline. CEO, Hans-Jürgen Abt, recalls the days of tuning the Audi 100 C2 Avant back in 1977 and all of the Avant variants since then. In all, there’s 35 years of experience packed into the large rear hatch of the A6 Avant, making the ABT AS6 one of the best programs on the market.

The new ABT AS6 A6 Avant tuning program is about complementing the sportier construction of the fourth-generation (C7) A6. Audi utilized many new, lightweight materials and metals to build the A6, to result in better fuel economy, emissions, and overall performance. The low weight and engines that utilize forced induction made it the perfect candidate for tuning.

The first aspect in the ABT AS6 program was to upgrade two of the engine offerings. The 3.0 TFSI supercharged gasoline V-6 engine was given the ABT Power treatment and sent the stock 300 HP and 325 lb-ft. of torque soaring to a total of 420 HP and 398 lb-ft. of torque, drastically improving performance to that of the 2012 Audi S6. And if you’re a fan of diesel, you’re in luck. The ABT AS6 also features an ABT Power package for the 3.0 TDI V-6 engine. With the power upgrade, horsepower climbs to the 360 mark and torque moves up to an earth-moving 516 lb-ft.

With a pair of powerful engine options churning all four wheels under the hood, the next step in the A6 Avant tuning program was to upgrade the chassis to make the wagon more nimble. The ABT AS6 can be fitted with two types of suspension modifications depending on customer’s needs. For those that want an adjustable system, ABT Sportsline offers a Level Control upgrade that utilizes the Avant’s electronic suspension to raise and lower the ride height for varying levels of performance. Customers that want a more traditional setup can opt for the lowering springs that reduce the overall center of gravity for better handling.

In terms of styling, ABT Sportsline’s design team has created new bodywork that complements the longer shape of the Avant model. The A6 Avant tuning program includes new front and rear spoilers, a pair of side skirts, and rear apron with dual exhaust outlets that work to improve the aerodynamic properties of the wagon. ABT Sportsline also offers both the CR and DR lightweight alloy wheels in 19- to 21-inch diameters with performance tires. Hiding behind the new wheels is the ABT sport brake system that features black-painted calipers and 380 x 34 mm discs for better stopping power.

The ABT AS6 Audi A6 tuning program is currently available from the German company. Customers can order individual upgrades or the entire AS6 upgrade program for their A6 Avant. Pricing has not been released.
