Poetry in Motion with the 300 SL.
Vintage and classic models from automakers such as Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, and Mercedes-Benz can oftentimes reach well into the seven-figures, if not more, at auction today. Most of the time they are well preserved, not driven, and highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors from around the world. We can’t fault people for not driving them as they are masterpieces of automotive art and seeing any kind of wear and tear or damage to one is just heartbreaking.
But then there are those that have worked hard to buy the car of their dreams. One man in California did just that and saved up money for quite some time and bought a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing – one of the most iconic automobiles EVER. This owner didn’t believe in just polishing it every day and keeping it locked away from the elements like a museum piece. He drives it, and he drives it often. And why shouldn’t he when he worked most of his life to reach his dream? He enjoys it, he loves it, and it drives just like it was meant to – beautifully.
It’s an incredibly rare sight to see a vehicle of that value, beauty, and status being driven on the road, but we admire his hard work and he deserves to do so. It’s satisfying to see a 300 SL Gullwing on the road, being driven instead of rolling down the auction block or on a poster, just sitting there, being used in a way that it wasn’t intended. It’s a beautiful car with a vulgar exhaust note and thrilling performance being driven the way it should and we’d like to thank him for it.
