Proving that some muscle cars can handle.

Most muscle cars on the road today have a stigma for being heavy, straight-line performers that just cannot seem to take a turn at high speeds. But, the folks at Chevrolet are looking to change that perception with the new Camaro SS 1LE.

The 1LE is an option package only available on the “SS” models and was originally introduced in 1988 when Chevrolet was heavily into road racing. The Camaro 1LE features a host of motorsports goodies including a new transmission and higher final drive ratio, upgraded cooling systems, modified suspension pieces, and a number of other chassis, wheel, and tire bits that are designed to tear things up in the corners. Plus, it has a 426 horsepower LS3 under the hood too.

To put the Camaro 1LE to the ultimate test, Chevrolet brought Camaro Engineer, Aaron Link, to Virginia International Raceway to set the record straight. Using a production Camaro SS with the 1LE package, modified only with a roll cage for safety, Link was able to set a lap time of just 2:58.34 around the four-mile course; a number usually reserved for high-tier performance cars.

The Camaro SS with the 1LE package starts at just $37,035 including destination and proves that some muscle cars can indeed carve up corners with ease.
