When 7:30 looks really slow.

Pretty much any performance car is tested on the Nürburgring to create the optimal setup and work out any kinks. The legendary ‘Ring is also a performance benchmark for sports cars, with their lap time serving as a measuring stick against its competition.

Now super car manufacturers around the world have another mark to beat: 7 minutes and 14 seconds. On September 18th, the Porsche 918 Spyder went out and achieved a very impressive lap time with Walter Rohrl behind the wheel. With just about 800 horsepower on tap from its high-revving V-8 and hybrid system, the new 918 Spyder is looking to break down performance barriers in an environmentally-friendly way.

On the test car that achieved the 7:14 time on the ‘Ring, Porsche only had their optional Weissach Package and was riding on street tires. Oh, and just like we previously featured, it also wore special Martini Racing livery.
