Lamborghini Drops its Top with the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster

Aventador LP700-4 Roadster

“The most exciting series production Lamborghini ever built.”

It was only a matter of time before Lamborghini chopped the top off of the Aventador LP700-4 and created a roadster version of the super car. But there’s more to the new Aventador LP700-4 Roadster than just the lack of a traditional metal roof. In fact, Lamborghini is calling it “the most exciting series production Lamborghini ever built.” That’s a tall claim for an automaker that has had quite a thrilling past.

Starting out with a 6.5-liter V-12 engine with 690 bhp at 8,250 rpm and 510 lb-ft. at 5,500 RPM with a new cylinder deactivation and stop/start function mated to a quick-shifting seven-speed ISR transmission, a push-rod suspension, a 0-62 mph time of just three-seconds, and a top speed of 350 km/h (217.48 mph) is perfect basis for a car that would match that claim.

But the new Aventador LP700-4 Roadster is quite a bit different from its coupe sibling. It now features a sleek profile with redesigned geometric lines that strikes a perfect balance between style, functionality, and excitement. A new two-piece removable roof made completely from carbon fiber manufactured using RTM and Forged Composite weighs in at just 6 kg (13.2 lbs.) and allows for easy removal and storage in the front luggage compartment.

Other aspects of the exterior have also been redesigned to accommodate the new lightweight removable rood and provide thrilling performance. The rear pillars hold the roof in place, provides an automatic protection system for both passengers, and helps redirect air into the engine bay. A special central “spinal column” stretches over the engine bay and incorporates two windows that look like a pair of armored plates. The spine and windows help to cool the engine bay, properly drain rainwater, and allow for observers to admire the potent V-12 engine.

The entire range of factory colors will be available with the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster as well as a new Azzuro Thetis light metallic blue paint with a tone that changes depending on the angle of light. The unique color was created after the classic paint used on the 1968 Miura Roadster. Each color will be applied in a two-tone setting with the roof sections, pillars, and rear window area painted high-gloss black. A set of Dione 20- and 21-inch forged aluminum wheels come standard and reduce weight by 10 kg (22 lbs.) over the normal set of wheels, and complement the sharp, angular lines of the new Aventador Roadster.

Inside, Lamborghini has taken steps to offer both comfort and excitement for passengers. A power rear windshield can alter the amount of airflow in the cabin as well as the amount of sound while a wind deflector provides a calm atmosphere at high speeds or can be stored in the front luggage compartment if you like the wind in your hair. The entire cockpit is also outfitted with Sabbia Nefertem leather that showcases the handcrafted quality of the super car.

The new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster is currently available from dealerships worldwide for 300,000 Euros plus tax. It may be a hefty price, but it’s worth it when you drive the most exciting Lamborghini ever produced.
