Just add tune!
The newest generation of Mercedes-Benz models has switched from naturally-aspirated engines to ones with forced induction for the sake of greater efficiency. This is especially evident in the new AMG models such as the CLS 63 AMG that have dumped the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 for twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 with more power and better efficiency.
The team at MKB-Power in Germany has been able to adapt to the change in engines by Mercedes-Benz. Their expertise with adding forced-induction on the previous range of engines has helped them maximize the potential of the current crop of motors. Their latest upgrade program was featured on the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG (W218) that is a simple and easy way to get to the 700 horsepower mark.
The new upgrade is essentially a simple modification as it encompasses just an ECU tune and does not require changes to the engine’s hardware. The MKB Power Performance software is compatible with all new AMG 63 models with the turbocharged engines and raises output on the CLS 63 AMG to 700 horsepower and 737 lb-ft. (1,000 Nm) of torque while raising the top speed to 211 mph (340 km/h). This also helps reduce the acceleration time from 0-62 mph to just 4.1 seconds.
In terms of visual, aerodynamic, and styling upgrades, the MKB team chose to stick with their specialty and focus on the engine. The lone aesthetic and performance upgrade is a set of MKB Alpha III wheels in either 19- or 20-inch diameters with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires for greater grip.
The new ECU tune and wheel and tire upgrade for the new Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG and other 63 AMG models is currently available. The company requires the ECU or the entire car be sent to MKB headquarters in Germany for professional installation.
