The First Production C7 Corvette Stingray fetches $1.1 million at Barrett-Jackson

Bringing in the dough for charity.

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (C7) has been pretty polarizing for automotive enthusiasts everywhere. Well, everywhere except the annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction where the first production model was auctioned off for charity.

The new C7 Corvette Stingray is all-new (except for two minor parts) and it’s the most powerful, fastest, and efficient base Corvette from Chevrolet ever. Its 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine is good for approximately 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft. of torque, sending the American sports car to 60 mph in less than four seconds. New carbon fiber and other advanced materials are used throughout the car to reduce weight by 99 lbs. over the previous generation model and stiffen things up. New chassis and suspension components help achieve over 1G of lateral acceleration, and it’s all wrapped up in a modern design.

Barrett Jackson Corvette Auction

All of that was worth $1.1 million to one lucky bidder who won the auction for the first-ever production Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The proceeds from the auction benefit the College for Creative Studies. Compare that to the first production SRT Viper that sold at Barrett-Jackson last year for $300,000 with all proceeds benefitting the Austin Hatcher Foundation. We’re glad to see automakers and bidders stepping it up for charity!
