The Brabus 800 Roadster is the Most Powerful of its kind in the World

The newest Brabus drop-top rocket ship.

Brabus has a history of creating high-powered vehicles that can knock your socks off with their incredible acceleration and performance. AT the 83rd Geneva International Auto Show, the German company will be adding to that list with the new Brabus 800 Roadster based on the new (R231) Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Roadster.

That “800” nameplate on the new Brabus 800 Roadster is more than just a model number, it’s the actual power produced by the topless rocket ship. The twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 engine that comes standard in the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG undergoes a thorough upgrade in the Brabus T65 RS Tuning program. The program includes a new Brabus high-tech Biturbo system with custom-tailored high-performance manifolds with integrated turbine housings and new turbochargers. A new carbon fiber hood scoop feeds four new water-to-air intercoolers to ensure optimum cooling for the new turbocharger system. A stainless steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow catalytic converters, integrated butterfly valves that alter the volume and can be controlled by a steering wheel-mounted button, and a set of ceramic-coated tailpipes with Brabus logo help to dramatically reduce backpressure and provide an exciting soundtrack with the top down. The final touch was a Brabus ECU tune that alters a number of parameters and ensures everything works together to produce an explosive 800 hp (788 bhp) at 5,500 RPM and 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft.) from a 2,100 RPM. The incredible amount of torque however, had to be electronically-limited to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft.) so that parts of the drivetrain don’t explode from the sheer force of the engine.

With the vast amount of power being sent to the rear wheels and the acceleration figures and top speed performance are nothing short of impressive. The sprint to 62 mph takes just 3.7 seconds while 124 mph is reached in 9.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 217.48 mph (350 km/h).

This incredible performance required Brabus to design new body components that would help cool vital components and provide greater stability at high speeds. Engineers went to the wind tunnel with the Brabus 800 Roadster and created a lightweight carbon fiber kit that can be given a matte, high-gloss, or painted finish. Up front the kit includes a new spoiler that is attached to the factory bumper and generates downforce while a new hood helps send air to the engine and four intercoolers. New Brabus covers are worn by each of the side vents and new “V12 800” badges are featured at each of the front fenders. Finishing off the kit is a new diffuser that keeps the rear axle plated as speed increases for the Brabus 800 Roadster.

Much of the chassis was also upgraded as well to handle the extra power and new, more aggressive style. A Brabus limited-slip differential with a 40-percent locking rate helps the rear wheels claw at the pavement during hard acceleration. To improve the handling even further, the team installed a lowering module for the ABC suspension that reduces ride height by 25 mm (1.0 inches). The featured wheels will be the in-house Monoblock R “Platinum Edition” forged wheels sporting a ten double-spoke design with matte titanium and fully polished finish. The lightweight wheels were fitted in a 9J x 20 front and 10.5J x 20 rear setup, and equipped with 255/30 ZR 20 and 305/25 ZR 20 Pirelli, Continental, or YOKOHAMA high-performance tires.

Brabus will also offer customers a new level of refinement and luxury custom-tailored to their specifications inside the Brabus 800 Roadster. New illuminated Brabus door entry sills, a 360-km/h dial (220 mph) speedometer, and other accessories are available along with specially-designed Brabus Mastik leather and alcantara in a variety of colors and stitching. Special trims and finishes are also available as well as extravagant options such as the leather-clad, honeycomb-stitched trunk on the show car destined for Geneva.

The Brabus 800 Roadster based on the R231 Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG will make its debut at the 83rd Geneva International Motor Show on March 5th. Pricing for the complete upgrade program has not been released.
