The Brabus B63 – 620 Widestar GL 63 AMG is Big, Bad, and Bold

Brabus GL 63 AMG

A luxury bruiser.

The Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG full-size luxury SUV is a big, bad AMG model in stock form with its twin-turbocharged V-8 and massive size. Brabus wants to give owners the option to take the sporty nature of the GL 63 even further in terms of performance and style with the new B63 – 620 Widestar model that’s even bolder than before thanks to a widebody and plenty of power beneath the hood.

The new 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 AMG engine offers plenty of get-up-and-go right off the factory line, but Brabus has a few tricks up their sleeve – the B63 – 620 performance kit and a stainless steel sport exhaust system. The new plug-and-play B63 – 620 performance kit optimizes engine mapping and boost pressure while the stainless steel exhaust optimizes backpressure and incorporates adjustable butterfly valves that changes the volume with a steering wheel-mounted button. Both upgrades result in a total of 620 horsepower (611 bhp) at 5,750 RPM and 604 lb-ft. of torque from 2,000 to 5,000 RPM. The brutal power output launches the Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG to 62 mph in just 4.7 seconds and to an electronically-limited top speed of 174 mph.

This increase in power is reflected on the new widebody exterior design made entirely of lightweight and strong, OEM-quality PUR plastics. Both the front and rear wheel arches are extended a total of 8 cm (3.1 in.) to visually add muscle and power. Up front is a new element that incorporates larger air intakes to cool the engine and brakes and a lip spoiler that reduces lift at high speeds. At the rear is a new roof spoiler that generates downforce for better high-speed stability and a new bumper element that includes a diffuser insert and accommodates the stainless steel exhaust outlet.

The Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG may be a big and almost bulky seven-passenger luxury SUV, but Brabus has taken steps to make it quicker on its feet. Models equipped with the factory AIRMATIC air suspension benefits from a Brabus control module that reduces ride height by about 30 mm (1.2 inches). A new Brabus high-performance brake system consisting of six-piston, 405 x 34 mm vented and cross-drilled discs up front and four-piston, 380 x 34 mm discs at the rear to bring the heavyweight to a halt quicker than before.

Rounding out the chassis upgrades is a set of 23-inch lightweight forged wheels that weighs 15-percent less than comparable cast wheels. The featured “Platinum Edition” Monoblock E Evo, F, and R wheels fill in the extended wheel wells and measure 11J x 23 all around, and paired up with 305/30 R 23 Pirelli, Continental, or YOKOHAMA high-performance tires. As an option, customers can also select from 21-inch Monoblock VI or F wheels, 22-inch Monoblock VI, E, Q, and R cast wheels, or Monoblock G Platinum Edition forged wheels.

Inside, customers have a wide range of options to custom-design their own interior. Brabus offers a variety of Mastik leather, alcantara, and stitching patterns, and even offer square-patterned stitching. Brabus will even go as far as to install yacht-design wood paneling for a high-end feel. In addition, customers can select aluminum shift paddles, door pins, pedals, and a 200 mph speedometer.

The Brabus B63 – 620 Widestar GL 63 AMG is available as a complete upgrade program or with individual accessories for owners of the current Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG.
