Now’s Your Chance to Buy Ayrton Senna’s Honda NSX
Or so we think…
Yes, you read that right; this Honda NSX was driven by Senna…reportedly. During the development of the NSX, Honda enlisted the help of Senna to fine tune aspects of the car like its suspension. At the Suzuka Circuit in Japan, Senna drove the NSX and told engineers that the chassis wasn’t stiff enough, which the automaker quickly fixed. The car’s handling quickly became one of its hallmarks and it can be attributed, in part, to Senna.
Reportedly, Senna had three different NSX models at his disposal. According to the seller, he had one in Quinta do Lago, Portugal, one in Sintra, Portugal, and another in São Paulo, Brazil. The black NSX from Sintra was owned by the seller for 17 years and has 31,000 miles. The car is completely stock and even comes with the floor mats that have Senna’s footprint on them.
The car is mentioned in Adrianne Galisteu’s book on pages 25 and 86, which is evidence enough – according to the seller – that this was indeed driven by Ayrton Senna.
“Ayrton Senna had 3 Honda NSX at his disposal. A red one in Quinta do Lago, in the south of Portugal in his Villa, lent to him by the Honda Motor Company. A black one chassis nº 000999, bought for him especially by Mr Antonio de Almeida Braga a.k.a “Braguinha” (personal mentor and sponsor) in a palace in Sintra near the Estoril circuit, mentioned in Adrianne Galisteu’s book (pages 25 and 86), and the other black one in S. Paulo Brasil. The one from Sintra I have owned for 17 years, is hardly used, has 31.000 miles, and is completely original with carpets used by Senna, the last time he drove it, inclusive of his foot print. I have now decided to put it for sell for the first time ever and tell it’s history.”
The bidding for the car ends on August 17th, 2013 at 17:05:18 BST, and its price is north of £55,000.00.
We’re a bit skeptical that this car was one of the three driven and used by Senna. The lack of information from the seller is a bit worrisome and may result in it being difficult to authenticate.
Maybe if he brought it to Pawn Stars, they’d know a guy who specializes in cars driven by famous racing drivers and be able to authenticate it based on the footprints on the carpeting. Maybe.
