McChip-DKR Supercharges the Audi RS 5 with Three Flavors of Power

McChip-DKR Audi RS 5

Who needs that new 4.0 TFSI anyways?

The Audi RS 5 is the epitome of performance in the A5 model line. It’s powered by the tried-and-true naturally-aspirated 4.2-FSI V-8 engine that has been replaced in virtually every other performance model in the German automaker’s lineup. The Audi RS 5 is essentially the last hoorah for the mighty V-8 and McChip-DKR is making sure it goes out with a bang.

The 4.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V-8 engine has been kicked to the curb by Audi in many of its models in favor of a more powerful (in some cases) and efficient twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8 engine. The high-revving 4.2-liter has been highly regarded for its performance, and its getting even more from McChip-DKR and its three-stages of supercharger upgrades to metaphorically give the middle finger to the 4.0 TFSI.

McChip-DKR has designed three different stages of performance tuning for the Audi RS 5 using their “MC5XX” supercharger as the main source of additional power. Stage One sees the 450 horsepower, 317 lb-ft. of torque stock output grow by 100 ponies and 88 lb-ft. for a total of 550 and 405 lb-ft. of torque. This comes as the result of the installation of the MC5XX supercharger, an ECU tune, and an intercooler while keeping the factory exhaust.

Stage Two is a bit more aggressive. It features the MC5XX supercharger and intercooler along with a more potent ECU tune and an exhaust system with sport catalytic converters to reduce backpressure. This ups power by 130 horsepower and 100 lb-ft. of torque for a total of 580 horsepower and 417 lb-ft. of torque.

Supercharged 4.2 FSI

In Stage Three, things get really crazy. It takes all the components used in Stage Two and adds on a more advanced ECU software tune and a new supercharger pulley ratio that feeds more boost pressure into the intake manifold for an additional 150 horses and 118 lb-ft. of torque. In total, Stage Three gives the Audi RS 5 600 horsepower and 435 lb-ft. of torque.

All three tuning stages from McChip-DKR include a top speed limiter of 200 mph (320 km/h). Stage One is priced at 19,999 Euros, Stage Two is 23,999 Euros, and Stage Three is 26,999 Euros.
