Reviving the legendary GTR name.
It has been 20 years since the iconic McLaren F1 GTR took the checkered flag at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The racing version of the F1 was pretty successful in all of the racing series that it participated in and helped to extend the legacy of the iconic F1 model. Now, with the production and success of the P1, McLaren is reviving the name for a special, strictly-limited, track-only car – the McLaren P1 GTR.
The new McLaren P1 GTR is focused on being the greatest driver’s car ever built for the track. The non-street-legal hypercar will have powertrain upgrades that boost output to an incredible 1,000 PS (986 bhp). Aggressive body work and technology will help it achieve astonishing amounts of downforce while an extended track and slick tires will boost grip to otherworldly levels. Everything will be designed and custom-tailored for maximum performance and driver engagement, unlike any car before it.
The McLaren P1 GTR was born out of the desire for current P1 buyers to have a car that was built specifically for the race track. McLaren was more than happy to fulfill this demand and slapped a £1.98 million price tag on the hypercar. Each owner will be given a consultation with the McLaren Driver Fitness team and Design Director, Frank Stephenson. Access to McLaren racing simulators will also be included as part of the ownership program. Each McLaren P1 GTR will be custom-tailored to each owner and be a part of a minimum of six dedicated international drive events at Formula 1 circuits.
The official details and specifications on the McLaren P1 GTR have not been revealed yet, but we’re guessing they will be out of this world. Production will begin at the end of the final 375th P1 road model, but no official production numbers have been released.
