The fastest and most powerful Land Rover ever is coming.

The world of high-performance SUVs is rapidly expanding as the lines for the segment become more blurred with every passing year. Everything the once purposeful, body-on-frame SUV used to be is being ditched for the better quality ride, more efficiency, improved handling, and greater performance found in crossovers, sport activity coupes, and virtually pointless vehicles with a raised suspension and premium badge. BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and others are all churning out their high-performance SUVs, so it was only a matter of time before Land Rover kicked their Range Rover Sport up a notch to compete.

Called the Range Rover Sport SVR, the new high-performance SUV made its debut at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed in prototype form, to an excited crowd. The new SVR model will be produced by the newly-formed Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations division that’s designed to produce exclusive high-performance and luxury halo vehicles for special clients.

The new Range Rover Sport SVR will be the first to bear the ‘SVR’ nameplate and will feature a 550 PS (542 hp) engine that is still draped in secrecy with the brand waiting until all the development and testing are finished before the final specs are revealed. What we can say is that the new model is going to be the fastest, most powerful, most agile, and most responsive model ever built by Land Rover. It will also likely garner the ‘most expensive’ title for the brand as well.

The new Range Rover Sport SVR will be built in Britain alongside other existing models and then sold in the global Land Rover dealership network. All of the SVR models will be built, designed, and engineered in Britain with that keen attention-to-detail and craftsmanship that we’ve all come to love and expect from the Island.

Look for the new Range Rover Sport SVR to be unveiled once development and testing is completed with sales starting in 2015 for the new high-performance luxury SUV.
