Only 499 will take their top off.

The Ferrari 458 Italia has been an incredibly successful car for the Italian automaker in all of its forms. From the base Italia coupe to the numerous racing variants, the supercar has amassed many awards and checkered flags in its large trophy case. After the success of the 458 Speciale, Ferrari is again churning out another high-performance model, and this time it has a retractable hard top.

The new Ferrari 458 Speciale A is the most powerful spider model ever made in the automaker’s history and delivers incredible performance with an open top. Only 499 examples will be produced of the limited edition, with its public debut coming at the Paris Motor Show.

Sitting behind the cockpit is the most powerful naturally-aspirated road-going V-8 engine ever built by Ferrari. The 4.5-liter, 90-degree V-8 engine churns out 605 metric horsepower at 9.000 RPM (597 hp) and 398 lb-ft. of torque at 6,000 RPM all while producing just 275 g/km of C02 emissions. This helps the Ferrari 458 Speciale A reach 62 mph in just 3.0 seconds, 124 mph in 9.5 ticks of the clock, and an Fiorano lap time of 1:23.5. The engine’s award-winning résumé is also on display on a special plaque inside the cabin.

Although the Ferrari 458 Speciale A is a convertible, performance and dynamics are still part of its DNA. The aluminum retractable hard top takes only 14 seconds to operate and its lightweight construction means there’s only a difference of 110 lbs. between the Spider and Coupe variants. A total of 10 different aluminum alloys are used to create a lightweight and stiff chassis and works alongside the Slide Slip Angle Control (SSC) and front and rear active aerodynamics to ensure maximum dynamics in any situation. A 2,954 dry weight doesn’t hurt, either. Innovative bodywork is featured throughout, making the Ferrari 458 Speciale A the most aerodynamically-efficient Ferrari spider ever.

For the premiere of the limited-edition Ferrari 458 Speciale A, the supercar is being debuted in a unique triple-layer yellow livery with Blu Nart and Bianco Avus striping that runs from the front to the rear, where is expands to envelop the top of the spoiler. A set of Grigo Corsa-finished five-spoke forged wheels help to visually portray the performance capabilities of the supercar.

Inside, Ferrari was dedicated to creating a lightweight, performance-oriented cockpit with a handcrafted touch. Newly designed seats wear a layer of alcantara with contrasting stitching and 3-D technical fabric while blue carbon fiber adorns the dashboard, moulded door panels, and center tunnel. The three sport driving controls rise out of the central tunnel on a blue carbon fiber tower and face the driver for easy access.

Only 499 examples of the Ferrari 458 Speciale A will be produced, so get in line before all of the collectors snatch them up.
