Whatcha Got?? – A New Car Shows, What Else?

Whatcha Got

Fox Sports, NBCSN, Tru TV, BBC, The History Channel and a long list of other networks have a lineup of auto-oriented shows that appeal to everyone’s inner-gearhead. ESPN has been out of the loop in this trend, which begs the question: “What’Cha Got”? This is more than a question, it is a new show from the sports network that features Championship driver and racing analyst, Townsend Bell.

Bell spoke about his idea for the show, saying: “My fundamental belief is everybody, regardless of demographic, likes cars, but not as much as a racing fan does, so I wanted to find a way to put a high-performance automotive platform together with sports stars that would bring these worlds together.”

It seems like a good plan. The show has a lifestyle segment which features the car collections and appetites of each guest followed by a Top Gear-style driving segment which pits other athletes against Bell.

Whatcha Got

The show is presented by Continental Tire (they also sponsor the TUDOR Championship and Major League Soccer). Quite apropos because the first season will highlight many big names from the game of futbol, like Kansas City’s Graham Zusi. Six Major League Soccer players – three from the Eastern Conference and three from the Western Conference – compete for a chance to win a year-long lease of a Lamborghini. The premiere episode airs Sunday 10/19 on ESPN FC (basically, SportsCenter for soccer), and new episodes will follow every Sunday through December’s MLS Cup final. Tune in.

Future seasons (fingers crossed) of “What’Cha Got” could include players from the National Football League, National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball.

CNBC announces a new show, “Jay Leno’s Garage”. Long-time subscribers to the Late Night king’s YouTube channel may not think the name is so new. However, the one-hour format from gathering around a computer screen to regular TV is a big switch for his loyal followers.

The new series (tentatively titled) is based on his Emmy-winning web series. Leno’s new primetime series will focus on…you guessed it, cars. From investments to the inner workings of the collectors market, the show will explore all things automotive.

“This show will be about anything that rolls, explodes and makes noise,” Leno said in a statement. “We hope to highlight the passion and the stories behind the men and women who made the automobile the greatest invention of the 20th century.”

This is just what our wives, girlfriends and family members needed – more car shows!!
