TIME FOR MAXPOWER in the Porsche 911 Turbo / Turbo S

It’s Turbo Time!

Zee Germans at, Maxi-Tuner, might have a name that suggests they produce some sort of high-powered feminine product, but there’s quite a bit more testosterone in the four-wheeled fun at Mainz-Bingen company. Their latest upgrade package is a straightforward way of pumping up power on two German heavyweights: the Porsche 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S.

The twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six engines that power the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S are potent in their own right but a bit reserved in stock form. Maxi-Tuner was able to develop a new auxiliary ECU system and exhaust setup that unleashes the power the two snails hold and makes them erupt with POWER!

The new auxiliary ECU tacks on an additional 60 horsepower and 74 lb-ft. of torque to the factory output of the Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S models. In Turbo form, the ECU creates a total of 580 horsepower and 561 lb-ft. of torque while the Turbo S goes all the way up to 620 horsepower and 590 lb-ft. of torque.

While power is the main benefit of the new Maxi-Tuner system, the German team also took a number of steps to ensure that the engine and diagnostic systems remain unharmed and unchanged. The ECU employs a number of sensors that detect overheating or premature detonation. If either occurs, the ECU reverts back to the stock engine setup and pull back on the boost pressure and ignition timing. The factory diagnostic and service systems remain and the auxiliary ECU can be easily removed.

In addition to the ECU, Maxi-Tuner developed a full stainless steel sport exhaust system that optimizes backpressure and lets out a fierce growl. When the Porsche 911 Turbo S test car was equipped with the new exhaust system alongside the new ECU, it produced a total of 635 horsepower and 637 lb-ft. of torque. That was good enough for a 2.8-second 0-62 mph sprint (0.3-second improvement over stock) and a top speed of 203.81 mph (6.2 mph faster).

The two new products from Maxi-Tuner are currently available for both the 991-generation Porsche 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S. The auxiliary ECU is priced at 1,899 Euros and the stainless steel sports exhaust at 1,990 Euros.
