Lamborghini has been working to insert itself into the motorsports sector as of late with racing versions of their road-going models, the latest of which is the new Huracán GT3. After the debut of the Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo, the new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 takes racing a step further and sticks with FIA GT3 regulations to help refine performance technology for the brand through motorsports.
The new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 will start its racing career in 2015 in the Blancpain Endurance Series at five venues in Europe, including the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour endurance race. The new racer also ushers in a new partnership between Indonesian oil and energy petroleum company, Pertamina, and Lamborghini Squadra Corse as the official technical partner.

The new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 is completely focused on one thing: racing. A full Alu-Carbon chassis with fully-integrated FIA-spec roll cage adds safety along with the new carbon frame 8862-spec seat. A new OMP fire-extinguishing system, FT3-type fuel tank, and OMP seat-belts further this effort. One of the new innovations featured on the racer is a hatch that enables medical personnel to quickly assist the driver in case of an emergency through the roof.
Tipping the scales at just 2,732 lbs. (1,239 kg) with a 42/58 weight distribution, the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 is quite the featherweight thanks to its composite bodywork. The entire exterior and its honed aerodynamics have been developed in collaboration with Dallara Engineering and the company’s founder, Gian Paolo Dallara. Maximum airflow, downforce, and cooling were engrained into the design front the adjustable front diffuser and louvres to the large, adjustable rear wing and diffuser setup. Front and rear LED lighting also helps cut weight and adds a more menacing touch while the racer speeds through the track.
The same 5.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V-10 engine used in the road-going variant powers the Lamborghini Huracán GT3. However, for motorsports duty, the engine utilizes a Bosch Motorsport control unit that can alter systems such as the transmission, traction control and TFT display. Rigid mounts secure the V-10 to the chassis and motorsport wiring and connectors ensure better reliability. An FIA-spec six-speed sequential transmission with a three-disc racing clutch helps control the mighty V-10 engine as it spins the rear wheels. Both the front and rear subframes were also modified to help accommodate a new front radiator and rear-mounted gearbox as well.
Helping to control the turbulent nature of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 are a set of FIA-regulation six-piston front and four-piston rear set of calipers clenching down on 380 x 34 mm front and 355 x 32 mm rear steel discs. A Bosch ABS system with 12 different settings and traction control is easily adjusted via the steering wheel by drivers. Traction is generated by 315/680 front and 325/705 rear tires that can be easily removed in the pits thanks to a pneumatic lift system.
“The first GT3 car from Lamborghini will allow talented young drivers the opportunity to contest a Lamborghini in competitions such as the challenging 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series. This season will be an important one for us to gather experience from a category as demanding as GT3, but at the same time we are offering a competitive product to our customers,” said Giorgio Sanna, Head of Motorsport. “It will be a busy year, as the Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo will also debut in our Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series in Europe, USA and Asia.”
The new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 will be available for 369,000 Euros in Europe excluding taxes and be available for the upcoming 2015 racing season.
