Turn up the Power with the new Audi TT RS!

Five-pot of terror.

At the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, Audi is bringing two turbo-five monsters that are just dying to carve up corners. The new Audi TT RS Coupe and TT RS Roadster will both be making their global debuts with the latest-generation of turbocharged five-cylinder engines, fancy new OLED taillights, and a racing-inspired RS sport steering wheel.

Dynam

After racking up six consecutive “Engine of the Year” awards, the 2.5 TFSI turbocharged inline-five is getting even better in the new Audi TT RS. Engineers have taken the next step with the engine by reducing weight with an aluminum construction, cutting down on internal friction, and boosting power without disrupting the firing order that gives it that special five-cylinder sound.

“The new aluminum five-cylinder engine delivers 400 hp, which is 60 hp more than its predecessor,” says Dr.-Ing. Stefan Knirsch, Audi Board Member for Technical Development. “Together with the quattro drive, it ensures sporty driving pleasure with maximum traction. Audi uses Matrix OLED technology in the rear lights for the first time.”

As a result of the new engineering, the 2.5 TFSI motor produces 400 horsepower and 354 lb-ft. of torque between 1,700 and 5,850 RPM – a 17-percent increase without a change in displacement. This, along with the Quattro all-wheel drive and seven-speed S tronic gearbox, allows the Audi TT RS Coupe to hit 62 mph in 3.7 seconds from rest while the Roadster does the same sprint in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155 mph or 173.9 mph if customers ask nicely and fork up a bit more cash.

The chassis of the Audi TT RS is nimble and dynamic, as one would expect from the top-line RS models. A multi-plate clutch and wheel-selective torque control ensures that there isn’t a loss of traction. Audi’s drive select system allows drivers to adjust various aspects of the sports car from the suspension to the exhaust flaps and even steering at the touch of a button through four settings.

Standard 19-inch wheels or 20-inch forged wheels hide the standard ventilated and perforated front steel brake discs and monoblock discs at the rear. For hardcore stopping power, the Audi TT RS Coupe and Roadster can be outfitted with carbon ceramic discs as an option. Another tick of the option box will equip the sports car with Audi’s RS sport suspension package with magnetic ride technology adaptive dampers that can be controlled by the driver.

Audi TT RS Coupé

Visually, the new Audi TT RS Coupe and Roadster have the same aggressive nature but with a bit of high-tech flair. A prominent Singleframe grille with honeycomb pattern and Quattro logo sits up front while a fixed rear spoiler wing and dual oval tailpipes showcase the car’s high-performance capabilities. Larger fenders and aerodynamic side skirts add a bit of testosterone. For the first time ever, the standard LED taillights can be replaced with optional Matrix OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology that features four extremely thin units per taillight to create clean light, negating the need for reflectors. The OLEDs boast a 3-D design with one of the units showcasing the TT logo and four Audi rings as a special design feature.

Inside the Audi TT RS Coupe and Roadster is a new RS sport leather steering wheel with shift paddles on either side and dual satellite buttons that control a wide range of functions, allowing the driver to keep their hands on the wheel at all times. The driver-focused interior features the Audi Virtual Cockpit as the centerpiece with its 12.3-inch screen and ability to display three types of information. A full array of high-tech communication and connectivity is at driver’s fingertips while a Bang & Olufsen sound system provides auditory bliss.

The new Audi TT RS Coupe and TT RS Roadster will go on sale in the fall of 2016.
