The Surprise Chauffeur.
In 2014, Prince Harry helped launch the Invictus Games – an adaptive athletic event for wounded, ill, and injured military personnel that are currently serving and veteran. The first competition in 2014 was held in London and saw more than 400 competitors from 13 countries compete in nine sports. The second Invictus Games were recently held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL, presented by Jaguar Land Rover, and saw 500 competitors from 14 nations competing in 10 sports.
With Jaguar Land Rover being the official presenter and supporter of the 2016 Invictus Games, they decided to play a bit of a prank on two unsuspecting competitors and their families with the one-and-only, John Cena.
Cena, a world-famous WWE Superstar, actor, and television host, became a surprise chauffeur for two athletes, driving a new Range Rover Sport SVR.
“I’m honored to be part of the Invictus Games in Orlando this year and have the opportunity to meet with some of the US team. It was a lot of fun taking on the role of surprise chauffeur and I was pleased to have the opportunity to get to know the competitors and their family members,” said Cena. “We are all indebted to our servicemen and women and I fully support the Games and the opportunity it gives us all to recognize the heroes of our nation. I wish all the competitors the very best of luck for the final stages of the Games.”
Although he was quickly recognized for his unmistakable figure, Cena still proved to be a very big surprise for U.S. team members, Tino Ulli and his girlfriend, Shari Trujillo, and Joshua Jablon and his girlfriend, Lindsey Green.
Jablon, a retired Marine Lance corporal, was able to win a silver medal in the discus throw and a gold medal in the shot-put during the Invictus games. Ulli, a retired Air Force Staff Sergeant, participated in the rowing, powerlifting, and shot-put competitions during the games. Both veterans are affected by PTSD and the games gave them an opportunity to be a part of a comradery and brotherhood during the friendly competition for their country.
For 2017, Jaguar Land Rover will be continuing their support as Presenting Partner of the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto Canada. For more information and to support to Invictus Games, visit the Invictus Foundation website.
