“30 Years M3”
In the summer of 1986, a car was launched that ignited passion and fire in automotive enthusiasts’ hearts and minds. Motorsports technology was available for the street in the form of the BMW M3, and has since become the benchmark for which all other sports cars are measured. Its driver-oriented characteristics, everyday usability, and superb performance make it a true favorite 30 years later.
The same DNA that was seen in the first E30-generation BMW M3 that rolled off the line in 1986 is still proudly on display today even through five generations of evolution. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original, BMW has announced a limited run of 500 “30 Years M3” special edition models available this summer, globally.
The BMW M3 “30 Years M3” special edition models will all wear the iconic Macao Blue metallic paint that was a special option on the original 1986 M3’s order sheet. Each one of the “30 Years M3” models will come standard with the Competition Package, which includes goodies such as an increase to 450 horsepower, an Adaptive M suspension, and modified Active M differential for better grip under throttle.
Visually, each one of the “30 Years M3” special edition models will come equipped with forged 20-inch M lightweight alloy wheels with the 666 M star design shod in 265/30 R20 front and 285/30 R20 rear tires. In addition to the wheels, the sports car comes with the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line, black chrome M tailpipes, and M gills in the front fenders with the “30 Years M3” logo.
The performance also gets an added boost on the “30 Years M3” models. Thanks to the bump in power, the models equipped with the 7-speed M double clutch gearbox accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 4.0 seconds – 0.1 seconds faster than the standard model. The special edition models with the six-speed manual also make the same sprint 0.1 seconds faster than their stock counterparts as well.
The 30-year anniversary celebration continues to the interior of the BMW M3 “30 Years M3” models. Here, a full two-tone Black and Fjord Blue or Black and Silverstone Merino leather is worn with special M sports seats. Woven BMW M logos are found on each of the seatbelts. Special “30 Years M3” logos are featured on each of the front door sills while a “30 Years M3 1/500” badge is proudly displayed on the carbon fiber instrument panel trim strip. Each headrest also features “30 Years M3” logos embroidered into the headrests.
Only 500 examples of the BMW M3 “30 Years M3” models will be made with sales starting in the summer of 2016 to correlate with the launch of the M3 30 years ago.
