Friday FAIL: Your 5-Year-Old Probably Shouldn’t Do Burnouts

Friday FAIL Kid Burnout

Or be in the driver’s seat of a car.

For this week’s Friday FAIL, we’re throwing out the hot take that you shouldn’t have your 5-year-old child behind the wheel of a running vehicle alone, nor should you allow them to do burnouts alone in the car.

We understand that having your kid do burnouts sounds cool and can be seen as a point of pride, but at the end of the day, it’s just not safe. Just imagine if something happened where the child loses control and crashes. That’s why it’s a bad idea.

And that’s how Alex Dobson of Australia got his car towed.

Dobson filmed his 5-year-old son doing burnouts in his Holden Commodore in his driveway and posted both videos to his Facebook page with the caption:
“When your 5 year old says… Dad, can i do a burnout? Sure son, no worries..
Remember a car addiction stops a drug addiction..
Private driveway..”

Dobson also added in that he had been taking his kid to burnout competitions since he was born as if it made him completely qualified to attempt the stunt.

Just three days after posting the video and after it hit more than four million views, police seized the Holden. According to 9News, he’s also starting to regret posting the videos.

Gee, we wonder why…

Don’t let your children do things like this. If they get hurt, you’re going to regret it for the rest of your life.

Would you ever let your 5-year-old do a burnout alone in a car?
