Giving us what BMW isn’t.
The small, compact dimensions of the BMW M2 are what driving enthusiasts want. The sports car gives a pure, direct, and connected feel to the road with a quick and nimble personality. The only issue is that BMW has focused their hardcore motorsport efforts on the bigger M4, leading to the limited-edition M4 GTS. But the UK team at Evolve Automotive collaborated with Carbonfiber Dynamics to create the car that we all desire: the BMW M2 GTS.
The new track-focused sports car made its debut at the 2016 Essen Motor Show and is based on the F87 BMW M2. The Evolved Automotive team worked closely with Carbonfiber Dynamics to create a sports car that mirrors the high-performance, motorsport-inspired capabilities of the BMW M4 GTS.
Visually, the new BMW M2 GTS looks as if it’s begging for track time, starting with the more commanding front fascia. Here, Evolve Automotive installed a three-piece RKP lip, manufactured in the USA, which sends cool air to the brakes and increases downforce. At the rear, a new Edison Composites GTS style rear wing spoiler provides a dominating presence and can be adjusted for different levels of downforce. Beneath, a new RKP diffuser perfectly integrates the new quad exhaust and helps smooth airflow.
And while spoilers and lips grab the headlines, the new Edison Composites hood and roof fly under-the-radar and increase overall performance. The team at Carbonfiber Dynamics and Evolve Automotive opted for the Edison Composites hood with reinforced Kevlar layer to emphasize the GTS look, improve engine ventilation, and cut 20 lbs. of weight. The new Edison Composites autoclaved carbon fiber roof bears a striking resemblance to the M4 GTS’s unit and cuts 11 lbs. of weight at the highest point, which improves the overall center of gravity.
The Evolve Automotive BMW M2 GTS is aimed to be even more athletic and nimble compared to the factory model. Standing proud are new 6Sixty forged wheels measuring a wide 9.0 x 19 ET 24 up front and 10.0 x 19 ET 28 at the rear. These forged concave wheels weigh less than the factory wheels, which helps improve overall performance from braking to acceleration and even fuel economy. Strapped onto those lightweight wheels are slick Toyo R888 tires measuring 245/35 R19 and 265/35 R19 at the front and rear, respectively.
The wheel and tire fitment was only part of the equation on the Evolve Automotive and Carbonfiber Dynamics track star. The M2 GTS was also outfitted with BMW Ceramic Brakes utilizing massive 400 mm discs and six-piston calipers at the front axle to stop on a dime. A full Bilstein B16 adjustable suspension was also fitted that allows drivers to tailor their setup to a given track.
With the goal of taking home the checkered flag, the Evolve Automotive team turned their focus on the turbocharged N55 engine under the carbon fiber hood. Here, a new Evolve downpipe and exhaust system cuts backpressure down significantly. A new Eventuri carbon Kevlar intake system helps suck in greater amounts of air more efficiently. After a new Evolve software tune, a total of 401 horsepower and 450 lb-ft. of torque to make the sports car a true GTS model.
If you’re tired of waiting around for BMW, the new Evolve Automotive and Carbonfiber Dynamics BMW M2 GTS is ready to take home the checkered flag.
