G-Power M5 Hurricane RS Touring Exposed

The fastest wagon in the world.

Ever since automobile tuning became popular, companies have been slugging it out to create products and tuning programs that are more powerful and faster than the competition. Even the performance estate wagons that automakers have introduced to the market are not immune to catching the tuning bug. 1997 saw Brabus reach a top speed of 198.84 mph (320 km/h) with the Brabus T V12. Then, in 2009, MTM set a new record with their 213.88 mph (344.2 km/h) MTM RS6 R. But, a new wagon has been crowned top speed king, the G-Power BMW M5 Hurricane RS Touring.

In 2008, G-Power set a world record for the fastest sedan with the M5 Hurricane RS, reaching a top speed of 228.29 mph (367.4 km/h). The evolution of speed continued in 2010 with the M5 Hurricane RR sedan, which set a top speed record of 231.15 mph (372 km/h). The technology used in both record-setting M5s has been refined and transferred into the new M5 Hurricane RS Touring.

The M5 Hurricane RS Touring will use the same twin-supercharged engine used by the M5 Hurricane RS sedan. The 5.0-liter V-10 uses dual ASA T1-316 superchargers to force feed each cylinder bank, with air being cooled by a twin-scroll water-cooled intercooler painted bright orange. The new intercooler replaces the stock airbox and uses short airways to ensure rapid throttle response. Lightweight forged Mahle high-performance pistons with lower compression, reinforced con rods, and piston pins have been installed to handle the additional power and boost pressure. All of the new components work in harmony thanks to a remapped engine control unit, and result in a total of 750 horsepower from 7,500 to 8,000 RPM, and a maximum torque output of 553 lb-ft. at 5,000 RPM.

With a wealth of power on tap, the M5 Hurricane RS Touring can accelerate from rest to 62 mph in less than 4.5 seconds, 124 mph in only 9.7 seconds, and reach 186 mph in just 26 seconds. The most notable aspect though, is the top speed. The G-Power M5 holds the world record of being the fastest wagon with a top speed of 223.69 mph (360 km/h) – and that’s electronically limited!

Stock tires, wheels, and other components cannot handle the added stresses of such a high top speed. To remedy this problem, G-Power has fitted new 20-inch Silverstone Diamond twin-spoke concave wheels. The wheels feature a lightweight design to reduce unsprung mass and have been developed specifically for BMW models. New 255/35 ZR 20 front and 285/30 ZR 20 rear Michelin Pilot Sport tires have been fitted, and are capable of handling the 220 mph + top speed. Bringing the M5 Touring to a complete stop are new 396 mm front and 380 mm rear brake discs with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers that can produce up to 1g of deceleration. Optionally, customers can order G-Power ceramic brakes that reduce unsprung mass by 50 percent. Completing the overall chassis upgrades are new G-Power BMW G5-RS coilovers with nine-way adjustable compression and rebound, and infinite height adjustment.

In the pursuit of top speed, some automakers and aftermarket companies are forced to reduce weight, with interior amenities being among the first to be sacrificed. In the M5 Hurricane RS Touring however, occupants can reach speeds of over 200 mph in comfort. The entire interior of the wagon can be upholstered in premium leather and alcantara. Even the seat cushions can be reshaped. Almost every surface from the seats, to the roof pillars, headliners, even the floor mats and rear trunk features diamond stitching. G-Power gives owners complete control over the interior design, for a truly unique and special feel.

The G-Power M5 Hurricane RS Touring will be limited to 1,025 units. A complete vehicle is priced at € 242,016.80 net (+/- 332,700 USD), and includes the 750 horsepower engine, wheel, suspension, and brake upgrades, along with the full interior upholstery as pictured.
