BMW’s New Emergency Vehicles at RETTmobil

Because getting arrested and thrown in the back of a police car is so much better when it’s a BMW.

At the annual RETTmobil in Fulda, Germany, companies, civil services, and emergency workers gather to see the newest technology and products in emergency services and mobility. BMW has been developing new emergency vehicles packed with new technology for the past 50 years, and was out in full-force at the 2011 RETTmobil.

BMW has quite the history of producing vehicles with special equipment specifically for emergency use. Specialty vehicles from BMW have been used in the fields of safety, emergency assistance, medical, firefighting, and police. The development of the vehicles takes place alongside the civilian production vehicles, with special state-of-the-art emergency equipment integrated into the car right from the start of production. The emergency vehicles engineered by BMW are designed to offer superb efficiency, reliability, power, and performance in an affordable package for various government and public service agencies.

BMW works with experts in each field during the design and development process in order to achieve the most effective product. One innovation that was displayed at the 2011 RETTmobil was the BMW iDrive integrated signal system. The system uses the same iDrive control as the production models to operate the emergency and warning function. All of the emergency functions operate in the same way as the navigation and comfort features with iDrive for simple and seamless control.

Some of the featured models from BMW at 2011 RETTmobil included the 5 Series Touring, X3, and X6.
