Brabus SLK R172 Mercedes-Benz Exposed

Sport Luxury Konvertible.

For the 2011 model year, Mercedes-Benz introduced the new R172 SLK-Class with updated technology, efficient engines, and an updated corporate face derived from the SLS AMG. The Mercedes-Benz specialists at Brabus have introduced their newest tuning program that improves all aspects of the roadster.

Compared to the previous generation, the SLK wears bolder styling and a more aggressive fascia. But, for some, the small two-seat roadster from Mercedes still bears that stigma of being “feminine”. Brabus has changed that image with a bit of testosterone in the form of a new aerodynamic body kit. The front wears new spoiler lips that fit on the production bumper to reduce lift and flashy bezels for the LED daytime running lights. Each side of the Brabus SLK R172 wears new sills that emphasize the width of the production rear fenders. The rear features a subtle but functional trunk spoiler and a diffuser perfectly integrated into the production bumper.

Brabus has also taken steps to ensure that the SLK is more athletic. Brabus offers its one- or multi-piece Monoblock wheels in various designs ranging from 17 to 20 inches in diameter. The featured wheel is the Brabus Monoblock F finished in the new “Liquid Titanium” paint. The wheels measure 8.5 J x 20 at the front and 9.5 J x 20 at the rear with 235/30 ZR20 and 275/25 ZR 20 Continental, Pirelli, or YOKOHAMA tires. To match the larger wheels, Brabus designed a special sport spring upgrade that works with the production shocks to lower the SLK by 30 mm (1.2 in.) for sharper handling. In addition, customers can also order Brabus brake system upgrades.

Under the hood Brabus has given the “feminine” SLK a bigger set of testicles that boost the roadster’s performance. The Brabus ECO PowerXtra CGI plug-and-play tuning modules are available for both of the 1.8-liter direct injection engines. Each module can be installed in less than an hour at any Mercedes-Benz dealer and comes with a 3 year/62,000 mile warranty. The kits only activate when the engine is at optimal running condition to prevent excessive wear. In the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY, the ECO PowerXtra B20 CGI produces an additional 25 bhp and 22 lb-ft. of torque.

For the SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY, Brabus offers the ECO PowerXtra B25 CGI that bumps power up to 226 bhp at 5,500 RPM. Ten extra horsepower can be gained in the SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY with the installation of a larger intercooler and electronically controlled Brabus Mercedes wastegate for a total of 236 bhp. This helps the Brabus SLK R172 accelerate to 62 mph in just 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 154 mph. For all engine variants, Brabus offers a four-pipe stainless steel sport exhaust system.

Inside, it’s not as girly as the SLK once was. The Teutonic interior styling has been upgraded with polished stainless steel scuff plates with Brabus logos, aluminum foot pedals, and an aluminum shifter. Customers can also order custom interior designs with Brabus Mastik leather and alcantara with unique stitching options.

The Brabus SLK R172 Mercedes-Benz Sport Program gives the roadster some chest hair and a more masculine appeal than the stock model. Pricing has not been released and customers can order the program as an entire package or as individual accessories.
