Gorgeous/Gross Green.

The Lexus LFA spent over nine years in development to ensure that it would be one of the best super cars on the market when it was unveiled. Toyota made the super car to get back onto the sports car stage and return to making driver-oriented cars.

The car was meant to be super exclusive and was sold with a hefty price tag. Only 500 are slated to be produced with a range of options for owners to create a custom tailored 552 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, weapon on the asphalt.

But then there’s this green Lexus LFA that appeared at VIP Auto Salon. Normally loud colors such as this are reserved for Lamborghinis and sometimes the performance variants of Porsches such as the GT2, GT3, and RS models. Super cars and exotics have been known to wear outlandish colors, but whether those colors make the car look good is debatable.

Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that the green Lexus LFA is a superb driver’s car. Zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, a 4.8-liter V-10 that redlines at 9,000 RPM, and 204 mph top speed? Yes please!

This is how America does British super cars.

This is how America does British super cars.

It’s not often that you see a US-based tuning company that specializes in good ol’ ‘merican muscle take on a British super car. Well, that’s exactly what Hennessey Performance did by designing a new McLaren MP4-12C tuning program that transforms the super car into an 800 horsepower chariot.

The new McLaren MP4-12C looked to shake up the super car world by taking down the longstanding marques such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. In stock form, the MP4-12C does a superb job of mastering the everyday super car formula and giving drivers phenomenal performance figures.

But Hennessey Performance, the muscle car wizards of forced induction wanted more from the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine sitting behind the cockpit in the McLaren, so they developed and designed the HPE800 MP4-12C tuning program for the British super car.

“We’ve been taking fast cars and have been making them faster for over twenty years,” said company founder and president John Hennessey. “I spent a lot of time around the new 12C at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed and was very impressed. We’re excited to have the opportunity to take a great car and give it our own special performance touch while giving 12C owners a uniquely aggressive appearance”.

The HPE800 MP4-12C tuning program mainly focuses on the engine and exterior of the car. The 3.8-liter V-8 receives upgraded intercooler and intake systems, ball-bearing turbochargers, external wastegates and blow-off valves, a new Hennessey Performance exhaust system, and dyno tuned upgraded fuel and engine management systems as part of the HPE800 package. The upgrade sends output skyrocketing all the way to 800 horsepower, an increase of over 200 horsepower. To handle the added power, Hennessey Performance also installs an upgraded transmission cooler and clutch system.

With all that added American horsepower churning the rear wheels and rocketing the British super car to otherworldly speeds, Hennessey Performance created a new aerodynamic kit out of necessity. A new CarbonAero kit can be fitted as part of the HPE800 MP4-12C tuning program and helps to improve cooling, downforce, and high speed stability. In addition to the body kit, Hennessey Performance also offers monoblock wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

Customers can also choose to outfit the interior with an array of leather, alcantara, and carbon fiber.

The Hennessey Performance HPE800 McLaren MP4-12C tuning program will be available as an entire package with optional individual parts from their facilities in Texas and California. Pricing has not been released.

The fastest open-topped car in the world. Now available in yellow and carbon fiber.

There are super cars, then there are hyper cars, and then there’s the Bugatti Veyron. No other car is on the same level of technology, engineering, and performance as the Veyron. Plus, its price tag sets it in a league of its own. But, if you buy a car like the Bugatti, it’s not to blend in with the crowd, which is why the French automaker provides customers with an array of outlandish and conspicuous custom-tailored options.

One of these unique, show-stopping color schemes is the yellow and carbon fiber combination that was unveiled on the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport at the 2012 Qatar Motor Show. While many of the automaker’s historic models are known for their striking “Bugatti Blue” exterior color, Ettore Bugatti loved to experiment with different color schemes and combinations to create memorable cars.

That same idea is still ever present today as the automaker offers one of the largest color palettes in the world for customers. Their latest version of the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport that debuted at the 2012 Qatar Motor Show uses two of Ettore’s favorite colors: black and yellow.

The new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport was given a horizontal color split of yellow and visible carbon fiber. The entire top half of the car was painted bright yellow with black carbon fiber framing, while the bottom was left with visible carbon fiber. Even the wheels were given a black finish to match the exposed carbon fiber bottom.

The same combination was carried over in the interior. Both seats were fitted with yellow leather and black stitching along with the doors and lower part of the cabin. The center console contrasts the yellow with bare carbon fiber. The steering wheel, gear shifter, and dashboard are all finished with black leather and yellow stitching. Each door panel features a glossy black finish and black handles and buttons.

Each of the yellow and black Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport models will be available for 1.58 million Euros (+/- $2.08 million). With the top on, the 1,001 horsepower, quad-turbocharged W-16 Grand Sport is capable of reaching a top speed of 252.98 mph (407 km/h) and 217 mph (350 km/h) with the roof removed.

Each of the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sports will be hand built at the Bugatti headquarters in Molsheim, France. Customers can custom tailor their entire car to suit their personal tastes with the help of the Bugatti Design and Engineering teams. Currently, all of the original 300 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Coupes have sold out. Of the 150 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sports to be produced, only 105 orders remain open. The standard Grand Sport model is priced at 1.4 million Euros (+/- $1.85 million).

Subtle tuning for a hardcore super car.

Subtle tuning for a hardcore super car.

Many aftermarket tuning companies have their own specialty, whether it be wheels, exhausts, ECU tuning, aerodynamics, etc. Just like their name suggests, the focus for wheelsandmore is on wheels…and more!

Their latest creation is the Ferrari 599 GTO. Not only does it have distinct, custom 599 GTO wheels, but it also boasts a roaring V-12 engine thanks to a new exhaust system and features an adjustable suspension.

The wheelsandmore 599 GTO was fitted with custom tailored three-piece 6Sporz² ultra light forged wheels. Each of the 599 GTO wheels was assembled by hand to ensure the utmost in quality, then given a black powder coated face and yellow barrel. Due to the immense power produced by the 599 GTO’s V-12 engine, a staggered 9 x 21 front and 12.5 x 21 rear fitment was chosen to ensure the proper amount of grip at the rear. The wheels were also fitted with 245/30/21 front and 345/25/21 rear Hankook S1Evo ultra high-performance tires for maximum traction. Because each wheel is made using an advanced forging process, wheelsandmore was able to keep the weight to a minimum and not affect the overall performance of the car compared to the stock wheel and tire setup.

wheelsandmore also focused on making the Ferrari 599 GTO a better handling car without sacrificing everyday drivability. A new hydraulic suspension system was installed that allows the driver to raise the front suspension by 1.18 inches in order to overcome obstacles such as speed bumps. The rebound and compression of the suspension can also be adjusted to suit different driving styles for optimal handling performance or comfort.

Part of what makes the 599 GTO the fastest Ferrari ever made, according to the automaker, is the 6.0-liter V-12 engine that produces 661 bhp and 460 lb-ft. of torque bone stock. wheelsandmore however, just couldn’t leave that engine alone. The German tuner installed a handcrafted, stainless steel exhaust system with remote-controlled adjustable flaps and an ECU tune designed to accommodate the reduction in backpressure. After the upgrade, the V-12 produced 705 horsepower and 490 lb-ft. of torque.

All of the upgrades from the new 599 GTO wheels to the V-12 engine upgrades are currently available from wheelsandmore. The adjustable hydraulic suspension comes standard with a five-year limited warranty. Pricing has not been released.

Get your checkbook, this one’s going to be expensive.

Seeing crashed super cars can be a hard thing to look at sometimes. Pieces of beauty and power wrecked, mangled, and totaled bring tears to our eyes. Alas, the first Lexus LFA crash has surfaced and looks to be an expensive fix.

The Lexus LFA and its 552 horsepower V-10 have not been out on the market for an extended period of time and we’re guessing many still have yet to break the 1,000 mile mark on their odometers. The white Lexus LFA saw only 635 miles before it was wrecked pretty badly from a front-end collision. While the details of the Lexus LFA crash are unknown, it reportedly happened October 8th of 2011 in Orlando, FL. The super car was not totaled, but will clearly need some new body work.

Since the accident, the car was put up for auction and quickly sold on January 3rd at Expo Motor Cars in Houston, Texas. No word yet on if the car has been fixed or its future plans. If we spot a bumper-less Lexus LFA driving around in the US, we’ll be sure to let you know!

Super Rare British Hyper Car.

Super Rare British Hyper Car.

The Jaguar XJ220 first hit the automotive world in the 1980s in motor shows as a future competitor to the likes of the Porsche 959 and Ferrari F40. After the incredible amount of interest the car received, Jaguar decided to put the car into production creating an incredible buzz. Jaguar intended to only take 350 orders for the super car, but ended up receiving 1,500. Out of the original 1,500, nine were given to Tom Walkinshaw Racing. Three of these cars were made into the XJ220C for racing, and the remaining six were made into the high-performance XJ220S.

The six Jaguar XJ220S models were given a number of performance-oriented modifications to make them even more exciting. The entire aluminum body except the door skins was replaced with lightweight carbon fiber to bring weight down to just 2,379 lbs. A number of aerodynamic body upgrades such as a front splitter, adjustable rear spoiler, and wider sills were also added. The original 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 that powered the Jaguar XJ220S was modified to produce 680 horsepower and 526 lb-ft. of torque, up from the standard 542 hp/476 lb-ft..

At the RM Auctions’ Arizona auction in Phoenix, the Jaguar XJ220S chassis number 784 will be auctioned off. The current owner of eight years has put forth a great deal of effort to upgrade the XJ220S and keep it in superb condition. A special titanium performance exhaust from Tom Walkinshaw Racing was ordered and installed by an expert flown in from Spain. The expert also serviced the super car by replacing all belts, cleaning the injectors, updated the computer software, and servicing the brakes and clutch. After the upgraded exhaust and servicing, the Jaguar XJ220S produces approximately 700 horsepower. In the eight years of ownership, the seller had repainted the body Lamborghini Reventon Gray, refurbished the leather interior, installed Infiniti projector headlights, refinished the original magnesium wheels, and fitted new tires.

Only 1,200 miles have been added to the car since the early 2000s by the current seller. The Jaguar XJ220S chassis no. 784 also made appearances at major auto shows throughout the United States, and won a number of awards at SEMA.

The Jaguar XJ220S chassis number 784 will be auctioned at the RM Auctions’ Arizona auction on January 19th, 2012. It is estimated that the super car will sell for $225,000-$300,000 USD.

Time to expand the trophy case.

Time to expand the trophy case.

It all started on April 22nd, 2011 when the RENNtech SLR set a world record for being the fastest Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR at Palm Beach International Raceway with a 10.439-second at 133.04 mph quarter mile run. Then, in May, the Florida-based tuner broke their previous speed record with a 10.29-second at 134 mph time, but it still wasn’t enough…

RENNtech started off 2012 with a bang, as they broke the nine-second barrier with their Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR. Named the LP4 SLR 777, the RENNtech SLR features a full Mansory Renovatio exterior body upgrade, and a number of in-house performance modifications to make it the fastest SLR in the world. The LP4 SLR 777 was also featured in the December 2011 issue of the Dupont Registry and made an appearance at the 2011 SEMA Show.

After basking in the limelight, the RENNtech SLR took to Palm Beach International Raceway once again to shatter records. The LP4 SLR 777 was able to achieve an astonishing 9.76-second at 140.8 mph run, making it both the fastest SLR in the world and the first Mercedes-Benz powered Mercedes model to run in the nine-second range for the quarter mile.

So what’s up next for RENNtech and their SLR? Setting a new record by breaking the eight-second barrier! Check out their blog and stay tuned for updates!

The return of the NSX.

The return of the NSX.

Once at the forefront of sports cars and innovative technology, Honda and Acura have since become stale, producing automobiles that don’t have the passion that was once a hallmark of the Japanese automaker. At the 2012 North American International Auto Show, Honda/Acura is looking to regain its cult-like following with the reintroduction of a classic – the NSX.

The new Acura NSX Hybrid Concept car promises to be every bit as innovative as the original NSX super car was back in the ‘90s. Powering the Acura NSX Concept is a next-generation V-TEC V-6 engine featuring direct injection, mated to a dual-clutch gearbox with integrated electric motor. The mid-mounted engine will also utilize a 2 Electric Motor Drive Unit with bilateral torque adjustable control system. The advanced system can send positive or negative torque to the front wheels during cornering for better control and handling dynamics.

One of the most technologically advanced features on the new Acura NSX Hybrid Concept is the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system. The new system utilizes new electric motors and power generated by the next-generation V-6 engine to provide precise and responsive handling dynamics to all four wheels with superior efficiency.

“This Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system will make NSX the ultimate expression of Acura’s idea to create synergy between man and machine,” said Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. “The NSX will make the driver one with the car to enhance dynamic driving abilities without getting in the way.”

Acura’s goal for the NSX Concept was to stick with the car’s original formula of a high power-to-weight ratio when it was first developed back in the early ‘90s. Lightweight materials and construction methods will be used to keep weight to a minimum for the production model. Instead of a big engine, Honda/Acura also chose to use a smaller V-6 engine with efficient hybrid technology to achieve maximum performance without affecting the NSX’s overall weight.

Acura expects to debut a production version of the NSX Concept within the next three years. The official Acura NSX specifications and pricing details have not been released by the Japanese automaker. Acura did confirm that a majority of the research along with complete production will be carried out at their state-of-the-art Ohio facility in the United States.

It’s the little things that count.

It’s the little things that count.

Since the 300 SL was reincarnated in the new SLS AMG by Mercedes-Benz, it has since become a popular subject for all sorts of tuning programs from companies around the world. Everything to complete transformations to the straightforward exhaust upgrade has been performed on the German super car.

However, Inden Design has decided that sometimes a simple upgrade package is all that a super car needs. The SLS AMG is already an eye-catcher straight from the factory with its gullwing doors, so the German tuner stuck to a basic upgrade formula to complement the car’s design.

The hand-built 6.2-liter AMG V-8 that cranks out 563 horsepower and 480 lb-ft. of torque was the starting point for Inden Design. Instead of a complete overhaul, the German tuner focused on a software upgrade for the ECU and an exhaust system with sport catalytic converters and manifold. This helped increase power to 623 horses for a considerable increase in performance.

The next step was a proper wheel and tire fitment that would complement the overall design of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Inden Design installed a set of in-house monoblock wheels with a satin black finish in a 10.5 x 20 fitment at the front and rear axles. In order to adequately put down all 623 horses to the pavement, new high-performance 255/30 ZR 20 front and 295/30 ZR 20 rear tires were fitted.

While the Inden Design Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG upgrade package may not be a full-on conversion, it still promises to provide all of the fun, if not more, than other tuning programs on the market. All of the upgrades are currently available for the SLS AMG.
