This Dodge packs a venomous sting.

At the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show Dodge will be unveiling their new Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket. The special edition muscle car recalls the famous 1970“Yellow Jacket” Challenger show car that wore pearlescent Honey Gold paint and was packed with all sorts of performance and aesthetic goodies along with a 426-cubic inch HEMI V-8.

“The Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket adds another piece of performance car nostalgia to our rear-drive muscle coupe lineup in 2012,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand and Motorsports. “The Stinger Yellow paint and interior accents speak directly to the performance enthusiast who appreciates a memorable and collectible color that helps deliver even more excitement and exclusivity.”

The new Yellow Jacket is a special edition based on the Challenger SRT8 model. The Dodge Challenger Yellow Jacket features Stinger Yellow exterior paint with contrasting black contour stripes and a black grille. The stripes are similar to those found on the Challenger R/T Classic package, but feature a black Yellow Jacket logo on the rear fender. All four wheels have been replaced with new five-spoke cast aluminum wheels with black pockets that measure 9 x 20 at the front and rear.

The Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket will also boast unique interior features in yellow and black. The standard seats were given special Stinger Yellow accent bands with embroidered Yellow Jacket logos and silver stitching. Facing the driver will be an SRT heated steering wheel with mounted paddle shifters for models equipped with an automatic transmission. Customers can also order an optional 18-speaker, 900-watt Harman Kardon sound system.

The standard engine found in the Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 will be utilized in the Yellow Jacket edition. No performance upgrades have been made to the 6.4-liter engine and it will have an output of 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft. of torque while achieving 23 mpg highway. The Dodge Challenger Yellow Jacket will come standard with a two-mode adaptive damping system with selectable suspension tuning.

The Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket will be on display at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. A limited number of models will be produced with orders beginning in December of 2011. Dealership arrivals are scheduled for the first quarter of 2012.

A Viper so lethal, it can’t be street legal.

A Viper so lethal, it can’t be street legal.

The new non-street legal Viper SRT10 ACR-X, is a raw and powerful machine based on the record breaking Viper ACR. The mighty 8.4-liter V-10 receives an increase of 40 horsepower over the production Viper through the use of factory headers, a less restrictive exhaust system, and an upgraded ECU, to create a heinous 640 horsepower.

Dodge’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team has also added a number of upgrades found in the famous Viper Competition Coupe to the ACR-X. Safety features such as a roll cage, fuel cell, race seat, and Momo steering wheel provide increased performance and protect the driver. The ACR-X is also more agile, benefiting from an upgraded suspension and a weight reduction of 160 lbs. Downforce has been increased to an astonishing 1,100 lbs. at 150 mph with the use of new aerodynamic components. A set of race slicks fitted to forged lightweight Sidewinder wheels, measuring 18 x 10 inches at the front and 19 x 13 inches at the rear.

While testing the Viper ACR-X at Laguna Seca raceway, professional driver Kuno Wittmer was able to achieve lap times of just 1:31.00, more than three seconds faster than the Viper ACR – the fastest production car around Laguna Seca. “After a short warm up, I was running lap times as quick as exotic GT race cars. I was blown away by the power and acceleration, and even more surprised at how the ACR-X navigated the challenging Laguna Seca corners and how friendly it was to drive at the limit,” expressed Wittmer. “All aspects of the car work together perfectly to plant all that horsepower and torque without issue. This will be a great package for someone coming out of grassroots racing with a desire to step-up to GT level competition. Dodge nailed it with this one!”

Aimed at the racing enthusiast, the ACR-X designed for competition in the Viper Racing League, SCCA, and NASA events. The ACR-X will make its racing debut in July 2010 in the Dodge Viper Cup series. Sponsored by Dodge Motorsports and Mopar, more than $200,000 will be paid out to drivers during the series of ten races.

Production for the Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X is set for early spring of 2010, and will be priced at approximately $110,000.
