Undressing an Italian icon.

The Lamborghini Reventon was one of the most anticipated and strictly-limited models from the Italian automaker in recent memory. Only 20 coupe models and less than 20 of its counterpart, the Reventon Roadster, were produced, which makes unwrapping one for delivery ever so special. The price of a Lamborghini Reventon is also extraordinary, as each coupe model sold for over $1.5 million.

A one-of-a-kind matte grey Lamborghini Reventón with tan alcantara was delivered to a customer and unwrapped with the utmost care. The Lamborghini Reventon pictures don’t do it justice as the mid-engined V-12 super car is a masterpiece of Italian engineering and technology. Nowhere else is this exemplified more than with the aircraft-style gauges that display information with fighter-jet technology.

Over 217 mph? No problem!

The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 is a seriously fast and powerful car. It packs a 6.5-liter V-12 engine that produces 690 bhp and 510 lb-ft. of torque, and sends power to all four wheels via a compact seven-speed single-clutch gearbox.

All that performance is good for an officially quoted 0-62 mph time of 2.9 seconds and 217.6 mph (350.2 km/h) top speed. However, Sport Auto, the German automotive publication, found the Lamborghini Aventador’s top speed was 229.91 mph (370 km/h) according to the speedometer. Using a GPS verification system, that top speed came out to be 219.79 mph (354 km/h), showing that the gauges and Lamborghini were slightly off.

This bull can go anywhere.

This bull can go anywhere.

Jon Olsson, the professional Alpine ski racer and free skier from Sweden, is known for trying new things that go against convention. His new camouflage Lamborghini Gallardo “Ski Transporter” is a vehicle that suits his personality. Like his complex Hexo Flips, DJ Flips, and Tornado moves, the camouflage Lamborghini is different, unorthodox, and one-of-a-kind.

Built by DMC Exotic Car Tuning, the “Ski Transporter” is somewhat of a contradiction. It’s an Italian sportscar that is at home in the snow covered mountain roads of the Alps. Olsson decided on building the car with DMC after hearing that the Aventador he ordered would take a bit longer than he originally expected. In the meantime, Olsson opted to transform a Gallardo into a smaller version of his ski box-mounted Murciélago LP 670-4 SV.

The basis for the conversion was a standard Gallardo. The German tuner installed a DMC Lamborghini GT3 front end that featured a large diffuser. The carbon fiber components helped to generate downforce at high speeds and keep the front axle planted to the road. For the rear of the camouflage Lamborghini, DMC Tuning utilized OEM parts such as a new bumper, diffuser, deck lid, and lighting with LED elements. A ski box, similar to the one found on Olsson’s LP 670-4 SV, was installed to complete the bodywork.

After the DMC Lamborghini conversion, the German tuner gave the Italian sports car a fresh coat of paint. However, this paint scheme was a bit different than what DMC has traditionally undertaken. Olsson had DMC paint the Gallardo in a black, grey, and white winter camouflage theme. A contrasting orange stripe was given to the ski box, calipers, and mirrors to make the Gallardo a bit less difficult to spot in the mountains.

Jon Olsson’s camouflage Lamborghini Gallardo by DMC Exotic Car Tuning is currently touring the world with the Swedish skier behind the wheel. Olsson also had DMC build a large SV rear spoiler (not pictured) similar to the one found on his Murciélago.

Be sure to check out Jon Olsson’s blog and follow him on his adventures around the world.

Twin-turbo systems are what Underground Racing does best. For the Ferrari 458, they offer a Stage One bolt-on turbocharger system that produces 700 whp for $59,000. Impressive!

To put the twin turbo Ferrari to the test, they put it up against the new Lamborghini Aventador. The Aventador boasts a 6.5-liter V-12 with 690 bhp, a lightning-fast transmission, and 2.9-seconds 0-62 mph acceleration time.

So, who would you pick to win the Aventador vs 458 Italia battle? Watch the video to find out who wins!

Ultra-superleggera.

Ultra-superleggera.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera was the superlight performance version of the popular Italian sportscar. For those that bought the standard Gallardo before the Superleggera model was introduced, they were out of luck, until now.

JMS Fahrzeugteile has unveiled a tuning program for the standard Lamborghini Gallardo that turns it into a Superleggera look-alike and sports a more dynamic suspension and wheel fitment.

The first thing that was addressed on the base Gallardo was the aerodynamics. The JMS Gallardo features two kinds of side skirts: a matte black finished set; and a carbon fiber with clear coat finish pair. Both sets of side skirts help to clam the air between the axles and reduce lift for greater control at high speeds. The original license plate mount was also replaced with a custom 400 x 115 mm unit for easier mounting.

After the aerodynamics were improved, the JMS Lamborghini was given a proper fitment and stance. The original wheels were replaced with OZ Ultraleggera black ultralight racing wheels in a 8.5 x 19 front and 11 x 19 rear fitment. The front wheels were fitted with 235/35 R 19 front and 295/30 R 19 rear tires for added grip. Each axle is lowered by 35-40 mm by a set of KW coilovers to improve the Gallardo’s handling dynamics.

The JMS Lamborghini Gallardo can be ordered as an entire package or as individual components. The Superleggera-look side skirts in matte black are available for € 1,899 (+/- 2,500 USD), while the carbon fiber skirts are € 3,299 (+/- 4,500 USD). The license plate mount can be purchased for € 399 (+/- 500 USD), the KW coilover suspension for € 3,399 (+/- 4,600 USD), and the OZ wheel and tire package for € 3,899 (+/- 5,300 USD).

Going faster with less weight.

Going faster with less weight.

In 1986 Lamborghini introduced a lightweight Countach Evoluzione that tipped the scales at less than 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs.). The super car showed the new direction that Lamborghini was striving towards with performance. Fast forward 24 years to the 2010 Paris Auto Show. In the days leading up to the event, the Italian automaker released a series of six teaser photos hinting at a new concept that was coming. That new concept was the Sesto Elemento, and was a demonstration in lightweight performance. It was also the first time since the lightweight Evoluzioni that Lamborghini produced a model that weighed less than 1,000 kg.

The Sesto Elemento originally began as a technology concept. The concept was a showcase of all the new and upcoming lightweight design, materials, and production methods by Lamborghini. It weighed in at 999 kg (2,197.8 lbs.). New production methods for carbon fiber, forged composites, carbon fiber reinforced plastic, and other materials were used to build the car and will eventually trickle down into the rest of the Lamborghini lineup. And after a very warm reception by enthusiasts and the media, Lamborghini has decided to give the green light to a limited number of production Sesto Elementos.

“The excellent feedback and the numerous requests we’ve had from our customers have really convinced us to embark on the challenge of producing a vehicle with unique characteristics. We are proud that what a year ago was just a ‘technology demonstrator’ of future super sports cars, even though in working order, will become a small series reality”, said President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann. “Only 20 units of the new Sesto Elemento super sports car will be produced, and will be destined only for track use. We’re planning to deliver the first cars at the beginning of 2013.”

Almost every aspect of the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is centered on cutting weight to improve performance. The wedge-shaped design with sharp triangles slices through air with exposed carbon fiber aerodynamic bodywork gleaming red from the crystals that are used throughout the fibers. The monocoque shell is constructed from carbon fiber forged composites, giving it an incredibly strong and lightweight makeup. Suspension components, the driveshaft, and even the wheels are made from carbon fiber to reduce weight wherever possible. Lamborghini didn’t even use lightweight titanium for the exhaust. Instead, it is made from Pyrosic glass ceramic matrix composite that is lighter than metal and has a resistance up to 900° Celsius.

All that carbon fiber and lightweight composites gives the Sesto Elemento unrivaled acceleration and handling. Behind the two passengers sits a 5.2-liter V-10 straight from the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo. The engine produces 570 horsepower at 8,000 RPM and 398 lb-ft. at 6,500 RPM, resulting in an astonishing power-to-weight ratio of 1.75 kg per HP. This allows the Sesto Elemento to accelerate from 0-62 mph in only 2.5 seconds. Power is sent to all four wheels through an advanced all-wheel drive system and six-speed e-gear transmission with lightning fast shifts.

Even the interior uses every carbon fiber weight trimming technique imaginable, and then some. Virtually everything from the seats to the doors is made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic in a minimalistic design. Small buttons control the engine, transmission and lights on the center console, while a gauge screen provides the driver with essential information while driving.

The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento will go into a limited production of just 20 cars, with each car being designated strictly for track use. Deliveries will begin in early 2013. Pricing has not been released but expect the super car to fetch a high price.

Lamborghini’s road going racecar.

Lamborghini’s road going racecar.

One of the fastest single-make series in the world is the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. The racing series pits Lamborghini customers against each other behind the wheels of modified Lamborghini Gallardo racecars. To celebrate the success of the series, Lamborghini is introducing a limited production Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale model that gives customers a racecar experience on the street.

The new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale is the most extreme variant in the Gallardo model line. It boasts a very low weight of just 2,954 lbs (1340 kg), which is 154 lbs. (70 kg) lighter than the Gallardo LP 560-4. The lower overall weight can be attributed to the aluminum and carbon fiber construction of the sports car.

There are also many exterior similarities to the racecar. The Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale uses the same adjustable carbon composite rear spoiler that creates three times the amount of load as the Gallardo LP 560-4. The spoiler can be manually adjusted by the driver to produce the desired amount of downforce depending on the track. The same carbon fiber composite is used in the engine cover with quick release function. The front bumper features a more aggressive splitter and the rear features a large diffuser finished in gloss carbon fiber.

The entire Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale comes standard with a Rosso Mars exterior paint. The paint references the traditional Italian racing red paint that was given to Italian racing cars in traditional racing. Contrasting the Rosso Mars paint are high-gloss carbon fiber mirrors, rocker panel covers, and diffuser, while the rear spoiler is finished in matte black. For the first time ever, the brake calipers have been finished in red.

Powering the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale is the same engine used in the race cars and the Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition. The 5.2-liter V-10 engine produces a maximum 570 horsepower at 8,000 RPM and 398 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 RPM with a unique firing order that creates a racecar exhaust note. The power is sent through the lightning-fast six-speed e-gear transmission to all four wheels, sending the sports car to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and 124 mph in 10.4 seconds, on its way to a 199 mph top speed.

All four corners of the Super Trofeo Stradale are controlled by double aluminum wishbones and an accurate rack-and-pinion steering setup gives drivers ultimate control. Lamborghini has fitted gloss black superlight 19-inch forged that save 28.6 lbs. (13 kg) over the standard wheels alone. Weight is further shed at the wheels by titanium wheel bearings and bolts. For optimal grip, Pirelli PZero Corsa tires are worn by the 19-inch wheels. Behind the wheels are eight-piston front and four-piston rear aluminum calipers grabbing 356- and 365 mm discs. Optionally, customers can order 380 mm front and 356 mm rear carbon ceramic discs.

Just like the racecars it’s based on, the Super Trofeo Stradale is designed with a minimalistic, no frills interior. Russo Mars alcantara is worn by the dashboard and seat inserts while black alcantara with red stitching is used in a number of other areas. Carbon fiber monocoque seats reduce weight and hug passengers through tight corners. Carbon fiber is also used in the door panels and center console. For a true racing feel, customers can order a tubular roll cage, four-point racing harness, and fire extinguisher.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale will be limited to a production of just 150 units in Russo Mars, Grigio Telesto, or Bianco Monocerus paint colors. Pricing has not been released.
