Gorgeous/Gross Green.

The Lexus LFA spent over nine years in development to ensure that it would be one of the best super cars on the market when it was unveiled. Toyota made the super car to get back onto the sports car stage and return to making driver-oriented cars.

The car was meant to be super exclusive and was sold with a hefty price tag. Only 500 are slated to be produced with a range of options for owners to create a custom tailored 552 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, weapon on the asphalt.

But then there’s this green Lexus LFA that appeared at VIP Auto Salon. Normally loud colors such as this are reserved for Lamborghinis and sometimes the performance variants of Porsches such as the GT2, GT3, and RS models. Super cars and exotics have been known to wear outlandish colors, but whether those colors make the car look good is debatable.

Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that the green Lexus LFA is a superb driver’s car. Zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, a 4.8-liter V-10 that redlines at 9,000 RPM, and 204 mph top speed? Yes please!

Get your checkbook, this one’s going to be expensive.

Seeing crashed super cars can be a hard thing to look at sometimes. Pieces of beauty and power wrecked, mangled, and totaled bring tears to our eyes. Alas, the first Lexus LFA crash has surfaced and looks to be an expensive fix.

The Lexus LFA and its 552 horsepower V-10 have not been out on the market for an extended period of time and we’re guessing many still have yet to break the 1,000 mile mark on their odometers. The white Lexus LFA saw only 635 miles before it was wrecked pretty badly from a front-end collision. While the details of the Lexus LFA crash are unknown, it reportedly happened October 8th of 2011 in Orlando, FL. The super car was not totaled, but will clearly need some new body work.

Since the accident, the car was put up for auction and quickly sold on January 3rd at Expo Motor Cars in Houston, Texas. No word yet on if the car has been fixed or its future plans. If we spot a bumper-less Lexus LFA driving around in the US, we’ll be sure to let you know!

Two new Japanese rear-wheel drive sports cars bare it all.

Two new Japanese rear-wheel drive sports cars bare it all.

There has been much hype and speculation surrounding the development of the Toyota GT-86. For years, Toyota has been parading around the car, showing off a number of different concepts and changing the names. Call it the FT-86, Scion FR-S, or Subaru BRZ, it’s still an inexpensive, rear-wheel drive sports car that has enthusiasts everywhere begging for a test drive.

Shorty after Toyota finally unveiled the production car, a few examples made their way around the world at numerous events, car shows, and exhibits to stir up interest. At a recent drift event in Japan, the Toyota GT-86 was drifting with its ancestor, the Toyota AE86, burning up rubber around a series of turns.

The crowd was buzzing with excitement about the new Toyota, until it’s older, yet-to-be-released older brother showed up and stole the show. Seemingly out of nowhere, a Lexus LFA Roadster showed up and started lighting up the rear tires with its 552 horsepower V-10 engine. Now, this could be one of Toyota’s grassroots marketing tactics to gauge interest with a roadster variant of the Lexus LFA, or it could be a one-off customer job.

Our guess is that this is most likely a Lexus-backed LFA Roadster. Most super cars already have a roadster variant, and back in 2008, Lexus debuted the LFA Roadster concept car and paraded it from auto show to auto show around the world. The car will most likely be built in limited numbers with a large price tag and sport the same V-10 powerplant. Stay tuned for updates!

The premium driver’s car.

The premium driver’s car.

At the end of the 1990s and early 2000s, Lexus began to stray away from building driver focused cars and began building basic, reliable, and luxurious transportation. After some shakeup at Toyota, the Japanese automaker has concentrated on bringing sport back into the lineup, starting with the Lexus LFA super car. The latest driver-oriented model to be unveiled by Lexus is the new LF-LC hybrid sports car concept.

At the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Lexus reaffirmed its goal of introducing more driver focused models into its lineup. The new LF-LC Lexus sports car concept showcases the new design direction that the Japanese automaker will be heading in with future models in a sporty, efficient package.

“The concept we’re showing here in Detroit continues the Lexus design revolution started with the CT and GS,” said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “The concept hybrid 2+2 liberates the idea of a sport coupe and pushes the boundaries of performance, style and technology.”

The Lexus Center in Japan issued a challenge to the company’s Calty design studio in California to create an emotional, avant-garde design that utilizes innovative technology and athleticism while remaining in the premium price segment.

The front of the LF-LC Lexus sports car concept features the signature hourglass grille, smooth lines, and dynamic headlights. The mesh grille was designed to create a three-dimensional appearance and has functional air intakes at the bottom to help cool the engine. Each set of daytime running lights are shaped like an “L”, while the fog lamps are positioned in a fading dot matrix to emphasize movement.

The profile of the Lexus LF-LC Concept was designed to be athletic and dynamic. The entire roof is made of a glass panel inspired by modern architectural design to create a sense of freedom and security. The sleek roofline carries over into the wide, powerful rear, where innovative LED taillights utilize inner lighting to create the appearance of an afterburner after takeoff.

The entire interior of the Lexus LF-LC Concept was designed to be pure, organic, and technologically advanced. Soft materials, supple leather, suede, brushed metal, and wood were all used to create a modern and comfortable atmosphere for the 2+2 coupe. Lightweight and slim steering wheel and seats were developed to give greater control and comfort to occupants and provide a sport-oriented feel.

Innovative technology such as ergonomic driver controls, gauge display, and infotainment system with two 12.3-inch LCD screens, showcase Lexus’ commitment to innovative technology. Drivers can operate all of the controls via a touch screen board with pop-up keyboard in the center console, without having to lose focus of the road. Even the windows, mirrors, and seats are operated by individual touch screen units. Facing the driver is an advanced three-level gauge display that shows information on different tiers for accurate readouts.

The Lexus LF-LC hybrid sports car concept will be on display at the North American International Auto Show until January 22nd. Future production plans have not been released.

Toyota only produced a small number of Lexus LFA models for exclusive clients around the world. The one that was lucky enough to get chassis number 003 took his car to Road Atlanta with Forged Performance and videographer Zak Kerbelis.

The 4.8-liter V-10 engine of the Lexus LFA is capable of revving to 9,000 RPM and produces 552 horsepower and 354 lb-ft. of torque. The engine revs so fast that Lexus had to install a digital tachometer to accurately display the engine speed. With a 3.6-second 0-60 mph time, incredible slalom speeds, and gut-wrenching lateral acceleration, the Lexus LFA is a beast on the racetrack.

A hybrid hot hatch.

A hybrid hot hatch.

The Lexus CT 200h is sort of a “green” luxury five-door hatchback that promises a fun driving experience. While the acceleration may leave a bit to be desired it does handle considerably well. At the 2011 SEMA Show, Five Axis was looking to turn the CT 200h into a hot hatch that will steal looks and handle like a sports car.

Sitting alongside the Five Axis Project GS will be the CT 200h tuning program. Like the Project GS, the CT sports a widebody conversion package that includes a new front bumper, rear apron and diffuser, side skirts, and flared fenders. A sinister JDSU “Dark Passage” exterior paint with black accents creates an almost technical JDM-style impression.

The entire chassis was lowered and given a new set of wheels and brakes to fill in the widened fenders. Both the front and rear sport seven-spoke 8.5 x 19 FIVE:AD forged wheels and 235/40 ZR 19 Yokohama Advan Sport tires. A Stoptech high performance big brake upgrade with 328 x 28 mm cross drilled discs sit up front with four-piston calipers, while the rear keeps the original brake system. The fitment is then finished off with a TEIN Flex coilover suspension system to improve handling even further.

The Five Axis Lexus CT 200h is also about giving passengers a sporty yet comfortable interior atmosphere. All of the seats were given unique laser-etched Ultrasuede EcoDesign inserts by Tunimodel Inc. custom upholstery. The headliner has been replaced with Ultrasuede EcoDesign upholstery and sports a custom illumination system. A new touch screen interface display sits inside the center console and controls the multimedia functions. As part of the CT 200h tuning program, Five Axis has also installed a 3M Crystalline window film by the Tint Factory.

The Five Axis Lexus CT 200h tuning program will be on display at the 2011 SEMA Show until November 4th. Pricing and availability details on all of the products have not been released.

Putting the sport back in the GS.

Putting the sport back in the GS.

The 2012 Lexus GS promises to bring some competition to the German sport sedans that have dominated the midsize luxury segment. The new GS will offer more “sport” than the previous generations and break out of its conservative styling shell.

And while that is all fine and dandy, the folks at Five Axis have decided that the GS needed to be even more dramatic with its styling, which is why they have unveiled the Project GS for the 2011 SEMA Show.

Nothing says “sport” like a wide body conversion. So, Five Axis gave the Project GS a custom widebody conversion with bigger front air intakes, rear diffuser, spoilers, side skirts, and of course, wide fender flares. The entire car was then covered in Glacier White paint with contrasting Slate Gray accents. Inside the bulging fenders sit 20 x 9.5 front and 20 x 10.5 rear Five:AD S5: F alloy wheels with 245/35 ZR20 front and 285/30 ZR 20 rear Yokohama Advan Sport tires.

The handling and braking performance was also upgraded to make the Project GS an all-around performer. The entire suspension was replaced with an AirRunner TC-5 air suspension system for adjustable ride control. A complete Stoptech front and rear big brake kit was also installed for better performance. The front set uses a 380 x 32 mm rotors grabbed by two-piece fixed, six-piston calipers. The rear features four-piston fixed calipers and 355 x 32 mm rotors for superb stopping power.

As part of the Five Axis SEMA Lexus package, the tuner has installed a custom exhaust system with dual finishers and unique silver textured accents in the interior.

The Five Axis Project GS will be on display at the 2011 SEMA Show from November 1st to 4th.

Drop top VIP style.

Drop top VIP style.

Every year some of the top tuning companies and automotive manufacturers in the world come together in Las Vegas for the SEMA Show. The show is closed to the public and features the latest and greatest in aftermarket tuning and automotive products.

Making an appearance at the 2011 event will be VIP Auto Salon with the Lexus IS 350 C – the convertible version of the sporty sedan. The California-based company aimed to make the convertible a stylish cruiser with performance to boot.

To start things off, a custom carbon fiber aerodynamic body kit was installed featuring all sorts of spoilers and diffusers at the front and rear of the car. A carbon fiber hood was added to shed weight and new headlight housings were installed that utilize VLEDS for better lighting. The fog lights and DRLs were also replaced with HID and LED lights for a more custom appearance. Then, a special K&W Custom Chameleon paint was applied that changes colors depending on the viewpoint, and Huper Optik Ceramic film by STM was installed for a contrasting look.

The Lexus IS 350C was also given a fresh stance. Forged Lexus F Sport 19-inch wheels in a full-face design were fitted and given Michelin Pilot Sport tires for added grip. VIP Auto Salon utilized Lexus F Sport lowering springs, Bilstein shock absorbers, and sway bars for the suspension along with a TOMS shock tower brace.

In terms of performance, the IS 350C may be outclassed by its more powerful IS F sibling, but this SEMA Lexus is anything but a slowpoke. The 3.5-liter V-6 was given a Power Enterprise Rotex Supercharger kit by Apexi and VIP Auto Salon, new PTS Joe Z Series header-back exhaust system, and Apexi Smart Accel Controller for a muscular 386 horsepower at 5,800 RPM and 372 lb-ft. at 5,200 RPM.

The interior of the VIP Auto Salon was given F Sport accessories, custom lighting, and upholstery additions. F Sport floor mats and shift knob were installed along with new LED lighting fixtures. Each seat features custom inserts by Top Stitch.

The VIP Auto Salon Lexus IS 350C will make its debut at SEMA on November 1st through 4th. Pricing and availability details on the accessories have not been released.
