The legend takes on Ascari.

Walter Rohrl is one of the most accomplished and legendary drivers in the world. Even at 64 years old he still continues to drive for Porsche as a Senior Test Diver and was even scheduled to race the 2010 24 Hours of Nürburgring until a back injury held him out.

His latest test for Porsche involves the new Panamera GTS. The GTS is arguably the sportiest variant of the Panamera and is powered by a 430 horsepower naturally-aspirated 4.8-liter V-8 engine. The Panamera GTS is capable of accelerating to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and reaching a top speed of 178 mph. Its rear-wheel drive layout, bigger spoilers, and tuned suspension make it ideal for driving on the racetrack.

Which is exactly what Walter Rohrl did.

Behind the wheel of the Porsche Panamera GTS, Walter Rohrl drove around Ascari with a Racelogic camera setup. The setup shows Rohrl, the car’s gauges, and a first-hand view of the road to see his masterful driving in real time.

The everyday sports car since 1963.

In 1963 the Porsche introduced the first 911 to replace the 356. Originally the car was supposed to be called the “901”, but because Peugeot protest claiming they had naming rights to cars with three letters and a zero in the middle, the name was changed to the 911. And history was made.

The Porsche 911 has made a name for itself as being an everyday sports car. Since 1963 it has become the face of a company and an automotive icon. The 911 has spanned seven generations and more than 700,000 have been produced with all sorts of special and performance editions mixed in throughout.

In 2011, the seventh generation of the 911 was introduced and met with high praise. To welcome the new Porsche 991 to the family, the Porsche museum in Stuttgart will be unveiling a special exhibition called “Porsche 911 Identity”.

The new exhibit will feature all seven generations of the 911 up to the 991. Each decade will be represented by a special backdrop that gives visitors a peek at the history of the model. Exciting technical exhibits and cutaway models that show the engineering and mechanics of the 911 will be displayed throughout the Porsche 911 Identity presentation. Special racing models such as the historic Carrera RS 2.7 “Safari” and modern 911 GT3 R Hybrid will be shown alongside steering wheels and rims from the past to present day. Also, for the first time ever, never before seen documents will be showcased to give visitors an insider’s look at the 911.

The Porsche 911 Identity exhibit will run from January 31st to May 20th, 2012 at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. Visitors can also register for a special one-hour guided tour to learn more about the iconic sports car.

Wide is beautiful.

Afzal Kahn of A Kahn Design is no stranger when it comes to Porsche, having upgraded a number in the past. His famous and highly sought after “F1” plate even rests on his A Kahn Design Porsche Panamera in carbon grey.

Afzal Kahn and his design team have unveiled a wide track Kahn Porsche Panamera that has a jaw-dropping style that erupts with power in almost every body panel. The wide track package extends the front and rear wheel arches and feature air outlets for a wide, athletic stance. The front of the Porsche Panamera wears a revised bumper with LED lighting that flows into the extended front fender and ends with billet aluminum side vents. The rear boasts a trunk spoiler for added downforce and a rear air dam. Protruding from the back of the Kahn Porsche Panamera are quad exhaust tips with a unique crosshair design.

The entire A Kahn Design wide track Panamera was then lowered with new, lowered sports suspension for better handling. Filling in the extended wheel arches are A Kahn Design RS600 wheels with original center caps in a 22-inch diameter. Behind each of the wheels are red painted brake calipers that contrast the exterior paint scheme.

On the featured Kahn Porsche Panamera wide track, the team of British designers chose to use a bright red and black color scheme. Each seat was furnished with claret quilted and perforated red leather with black leather borders. Each of the gauges was also replaced with red elements to match the leather. Occupants are hidden inside from view thanks to Kahn privacy glass.

The A Kahn Design Porsche Panamera wide track is currently available. The featured show car can be purchased as a whole for £86,875, and comes standard with satellite navigation, Sport Chrono Plus, PDK transmission, power liftgate, heated front seats, and iPod connectivity.

The sleek, sporty, and sexy 991.

The sleek, sporty, and sexy 991.

The new Porsche 991 911 is more powerful, technologically advanced, and more efficient than ever before. Porsche also gave its newest 911 a sleeker, wider design than past models. speedART is looking to improve upon all of these aspects and create a unique and powerful Porsche 991 upgrade program for the 911 Carrera and Carrera S models just in time for the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The new speedART 911 SP91-R complements the 991-generation’s sleek new lines to create a sporty yet stylish aerodynamic program. speedART has developed a number of different variants for the SP91-R body kit, the first aspect of which involves the addition of a CS rear spoiler that can be mounted on the stock rear spoiler. The spoiler not only improves downforce at the rear axle, but adds muscular styling to the 911 Carrera and Carrera S models. The wing can also be painted in two different colors to add a custom tailored look to the 911.

As part of the speedART SP91-R, customers can order from a range of different wheel and suspension setups. Upon its launch after the Geneva Motor Show, the speedART 911 will feature modular LSC-Forged wheels in 20- and 21-inch sizes with custom finishes. A number of different suspension options will be available for better handling ranging from sport or race setups and even an air lift upgrade to overcome obstacles.

Both the 3.4-liter and 3.8-liter flat-six engines in the Porsche 911 will have power kit options from speedART. Full exhausts complete with upgraded manifolds and sport catalytic converters will be available with optional sport switches that can alter the sound of the flat-six engine. Customers of the speedART SP91-R program can also opt for a lightweight titanium exhaust setup for even better performance. speedART is also developing an ECU tuning program that is expected to increase power by 25 horsepower and 18 lb-ft. (25 Nm) in conjunction with an upgraded exhaust for both engine choices.

The speedART SP91-R 911 will be available with a range of interior accessories. Customers can create a unique atmosphere with alcantara and leather upholstery, and custom trim sets. For better control, a number of ergonomic sports steering wheels can be fitted along with F1 paddle shifters.

The speedART SP91-R will make its official debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March. The full upgrade list along with pricing will be made available during the show.

Mid-engine masterpiece.

Mid-engine masterpiece.

The new Porsche 981 Boxster has been reinvented by the German automaker combining classic styling cues and modern technology to create one of the most satisfying roadsters currently available. Now in its third generation, the Porsche Boxster boasts a completely overhauled chassis, lower weight, wider track, and longer wheelbase along with intelligent and efficient technology.

Much of the design for the new Boxster 981 comes from historic Porsche models such as the 500 Spyder and 718 RS 60 Spyder; two mid-engined, open-top sports cars that were hugely successful in racing. Larger front air intakes, side air inlets, wings, and even headlights take inspiration from the vintage racing models. The entire profile is sleeker, benefitting from a longer wheelbase, forward shifted windshield, and shorter overhangs. A new rear spoiler automatically deploys at speeds over 75 mph for better downforce and integrates into the new LED taillights for a sporty visual appearance. An all new convertible cloth top can be electronically operated in just nine seconds and hidden away under a lid.

The athletic stance of the 2013 Porsche Boxster models illustrates the advanced technology hiding in the chassis to make the mid-engined roadster more dynamic. Aluminum and steel are used throughout the body to reduce weight for a more focused drive and to improve overall efficiency. Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and electromechanical steering are standard on the Porsche 981 Boxster and continuously monitors information while driving. Optionally, both Boxster 981 models can be fitted with a Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Dynamic Transmission Mounts, and a locking rear differential for improved handling dynamics.

Powering both the Boxster and Boxster S are a pair of efficient and powerful flat-six engines. The 2013 Porsche Boxster will feature a 2.7-liter engine with DFI and VarioCam Plus, producing 265 horsepower at 6,700 RPM and 206 lb-ft., while the Boxster S model is powered by a 3.4-liter engine with 315 horsepower at 6,700 RPM and 266 lb-ft. at 4,500 RPM. The standard transmission choice for the Boxster 981 will be a six-speed manual, with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch available as an option. Both choices of engine successfully achieve 15 percent better fuel efficiency than the previous generation models. The improved efficiency can also be attributed to the use of an automatic start/stop function, and coasting feature that automatically decouples the engine to prevent an engine braking effect under no throttle input.

Performance is still a selling point in the new Porsche 981 generation Boxster. The standard Boxster model is capable of reaching 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 164 mph with the manual, and a 5.4 to 5.2-second sprint to 60 mph with 162 mph top speed with the PDK transmission. The more powerful Boxster S model can reach 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and a 173 mph top speed with the manual and 4.7 to 4.5-second sprint to 60 mph and reach 172 mph in PDK form with or without the Sport Plus package.

The entire interior of the Porsche 981 Boxster has been redesigned to focus more on the driver. Just like the new Porsche 991 911, the center console is raised, positioning the gearshifter closer to the steering wheel similar to that of the Carrera GT. Facing the driver is a new three-spoke steering wheel and traditional gauge layout. A high-res 4.6-inch TFT color screen is centrally located in the dashboard for complete and intuitive audio, navigation, and communication controls.

Porsche looks to build on the success of the Boxster model with the third-generation, 981-series models. Both models will be launched in mid-April of 2012 around the world. The 2013 Boxster will start at $ 49,500 for the manual and $ 52,700 for the PDK transmission, while the Boxster S will be available for $ 60,900 for the manual and $ 64,100 for PDK.

The new 991 gets some fresh style.

The new 991 gets some fresh style.

After the new Porsche 991 911 Carrera and Carrera S were released, TechArt was one of the first aftermarket tuners to develop a range of accessories for customers to individualize their sports car. All this before the 911 even hit showrooms around the world. Prior to the Geneva Motor Show, the German tuner is previewing their latest upgrades for the new Porsche 991.

The new TechArt Porsche 991 911 focuses on retaining much of the car’s original, distinct design. Instead of gaudy spoilers and flashy bodywork, the tuner has created subtle exterior elements that accentuate the smooth, sporty figure of the new 911. Styling packages are available in custom colors or carbon fiber along with stainless steel oval or round tailpipes.

Finishing off the exterior styling are two sets of lightweight alloy wheels in either 20- or 21-inch sizes. The classic five-spoke TechArt Formula wheels are available and provide greater heat dissipation for the braking system. Customers can also opt for the TechArt Formula III lightweight forged wheels in a five double-spoke design. The forged wheels are 15 percent lighter than standard light alloy wheels, resulting in a lower rotating mass at the wheel hub.

TechArt also focused on redesigning the interior. New leather, alcantara, trims, and custom stitching can be fitted in any color to suit customer tastes. The centerpiece of the interior is the TechArt three-spoke sports steering wheel with paddle shifters (for PDK models), that improves grip and control during spirited driving. TechArt also offers new aluminum foot rests, pedals, and side sills with illuminated TechArt logos. Rounding out the interior upgrades is a set of TechArt floor mats.

The TechArt Porsche 991 911 will make its world debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. TechArt will also be showcasing their new Porsche 991 911 Aerodynamic Kit I at the show. Prices and availability have not been announced.

Triple threat.

Triple threat.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is the closest thing to a racecar that Porsche currently offers. Its 4.0-liter flat-six engine cranks out a whopping 500 naturally-aspirated horses and 339 lb-ft. of torque, allowing it to accelerate to 60 mph in a mere 3.8 seconds.

So, for a car that is built around motorsports, the best racetrack to drive would be infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife. The “Green Hell” features elevation changes and challenging turns, making it sort of a playground for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0.

A few Nürburgring spotters recently caught a trio of Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0s racing through the ‘Ring, and captured their flat-six howls for our viewing pleasure.

Five years in the making.

Five years in the making.

Back in 2010, Porsche commissioned a film crew to document the final phases of the 991-generation 911’s development. Two engineering teams secretly conducted testing of the Porsche 991 in the Arctic Circle and South Africa, putting each car through the harshest of conditions to ensure the 911 will perform well no matter what.

Engineers pushed each car to its limit, exposing them to sub-zero temperatures, clouds of dust, and hot temperatures. Every part was inspected and incredible amounts of data were collected to be reviewed in Stuttgart on each Porsche 991. Engineers even went as far as to pour boiling water on frozen headlights to make sure they don’t crack under the extreme temperature change. Testing wasn’t completely successful, as the fluid in the seven-speed manual froze in the Arctic.

The entire process from design to testing for the Porsche 991 took five years; all to ensure the most technologically advanced 911 ever made would perform in accordance with strict Porsche standards.

Twenty-two minutes of roaring flat-sixes.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is essentially a racecar for the road, featuring all of the go-fast goodies from the German automaker. But, some have decided to change things up a bit and outfit their GT3 RSs for rally racing, and provided us with some quality entertainment.

The Porsche 911 rally video is 22 minutes of howling flat-sixes, screeching tires, Scandinavian flicks, and pure Porsche fun. Some of our favorite clips came from the hairpin turn, especially at 10:39 of the video.
