James Bond approves.

James Bond approves.

The BMW E52 Z8 was one of the rarest and most prized BMW models in recent memory. It originally began life as a concept designed by Henrik Fisker (yes, the same CEO of Fisker) to tribute the BMW 507. It ended up being incredibly popular and led BMW to produce a limited number of the cars, and even starred in the 1999 James Bond movie.

Senner Tuning has taken the rare BMW roadster and tweaked it to provide drivers with a thrilling ride and unequalled style. The original 5.0-liter (4,941 cc) V-8, S62 engine that powered the BMW E52 Z8 offered a substantial 400 horsepower and 370 lb-ft. of torque, rocketing the Z8 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds stock. Senner Tuning was able to install a sports air filter kit and stainless steel exhaust system with metal catalytic converters, manifold, muffler, and flame tubes. After the engine upgrades, the BMW Z8 was bumped up to 450 horsepower and 395 lb-ft. of torque, reducing the acceleration time and extending the top speed to over 186 mph.

Instead of significantly modifying the exterior by designing and developing body work for a car whose design was to tribute a classic, Senner Tuning chose to upgrade the chassis. The original wheel and tire fitment was replaced with Work SC1 wheels with a Diamond Black finish and chrome outer lips. The 9 x 19 front and 10 x 19 rear wheels were equipped with Continental Sport Contact 255/40 R19 and 285/35 R19 tires for better grip. In terms of handling, the German tuner installed a new adjustable coilover Variant 2 setup and new front strut bar on the BMW E52 Z8. Senner Tuning also installed new gold-painted race calipers that peek from behind each wheel.

The entire conversion by Senner Tuning for the BMW E52 is currently available for 18,900 Euros (+/- 24,800 USD) for all 5,703 models that were produced.

60 years of Corvette Performance.

60 years of Corvette Performance.

Sixty years ago one of the most iconic sports cars in the world was introduced and has become a symbol for American performance throughout its production. Since its inception, the Chevrolet Corvette has spanned six different generations and made its mark in motorsports. To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Chevrolet has introduced the Corvette 427 Convertible and 60th Anniversary Package.

As part of the final production year for the C6-generation Corvette, Chevrolet has introduced the fastest and most powerful convertible variant of the sports car to date. The new 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Convertible features a 427-cu.in. (7.0-liter) engine, the same one used in the Corvette Z06, and is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.

The LS7 engine used in the Corvette 427 Convertible produces 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft. of torque. It was co-developed alongside the Corvette GT1 engine that won Le Mans and is constructed using high-flow cylinder heads, titanium connecting rods and intake valves, and a dry-sump oil lubrication system. The entire engine is hand-assembled by a master technician. As an option, customers can take part in the Corvette Build Experience and assemble their own engine with guidance from a master technician.

Chevrolet installed a number of carbon fiber components on the Corvette 427 Convertible in order to keep weight to a minimum. The raised hood, ZO6 fenders, floor panels, and optional “CFZ” front splitter and rocker panels are made from the lightweight material and help bring weight down to 3,355 lbs. The low weight, coupled with the 505 horsepower LS7 engine, gives the Corvette 427 Convertible a power-to-weight ratio of 6.64, putting it ahead of super car convertibles like the Porsche 911 Turbo S, Ferrari California, and Aston Martin DBS Volante.

The low power-to-weight ratio helps the Chevrolet Corvette 427 Convertible achieve impressive performance figures. The sprint to 60 mph takes a mere 3.8 seconds before the drop-top blasts through the quarter-mile in 11.8 ticks. Top speed is pegged at over 190 mph. Did we mention it can handle? The 427 Convertible is capable of achieving 1.04 G of lateral acceleration on the stock tires!

Many of the factory performance upgrades from the Z06, ZR-1, and Z07 come standard on the new 427 Convertible. The rear axle system and driveline from the Z06 model is standard along with the quick-thinking Magnetic Selective Ride Control and rear-mounted battery. The Corvette 427 Convertible is also light on its feet as it uses lightweight machine-face Cup wheels in a 19-inch front, 20-inch rear fitment with grey finished pockets and Michelin PS2 tires.

Chevrolet has also introduced a 60th Anniversary for all 2013 Corvette models including the 427 Convertible. Models equipped with the package feature an Arctic White exterior paint with Blue Diamond leather interior with suede accents. All convertible models will be equipped with a blue top to match the interior. Other features include a ZR-1 rear spoiler and 60th Anniversary badging on the interior and exterior. As an option, all of the cars can be equipped with Pearl Silver Blue stripes, with tonal stripes stitched into the convertible top.

The first 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Convertible will be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale on Saturday, January 21st. All of the money raised by the car will be donated to the Drive to End Hunger food relief program. The Corvette 427 Convertible will be available as a 2013-model year vehicle in 2LT, 3LT, and 4LT trims, and come standard with a unique vehicle number sequence. The 60th Anniversary Package will be available to all 2013-model year Corvette models as an option.

Mid-engine masterpiece.

Mid-engine masterpiece.

The new Porsche 981 Boxster has been reinvented by the German automaker combining classic styling cues and modern technology to create one of the most satisfying roadsters currently available. Now in its third generation, the Porsche Boxster boasts a completely overhauled chassis, lower weight, wider track, and longer wheelbase along with intelligent and efficient technology.

Much of the design for the new Boxster 981 comes from historic Porsche models such as the 500 Spyder and 718 RS 60 Spyder; two mid-engined, open-top sports cars that were hugely successful in racing. Larger front air intakes, side air inlets, wings, and even headlights take inspiration from the vintage racing models. The entire profile is sleeker, benefitting from a longer wheelbase, forward shifted windshield, and shorter overhangs. A new rear spoiler automatically deploys at speeds over 75 mph for better downforce and integrates into the new LED taillights for a sporty visual appearance. An all new convertible cloth top can be electronically operated in just nine seconds and hidden away under a lid.

The athletic stance of the 2013 Porsche Boxster models illustrates the advanced technology hiding in the chassis to make the mid-engined roadster more dynamic. Aluminum and steel are used throughout the body to reduce weight for a more focused drive and to improve overall efficiency. Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and electromechanical steering are standard on the Porsche 981 Boxster and continuously monitors information while driving. Optionally, both Boxster 981 models can be fitted with a Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Dynamic Transmission Mounts, and a locking rear differential for improved handling dynamics.

Powering both the Boxster and Boxster S are a pair of efficient and powerful flat-six engines. The 2013 Porsche Boxster will feature a 2.7-liter engine with DFI and VarioCam Plus, producing 265 horsepower at 6,700 RPM and 206 lb-ft., while the Boxster S model is powered by a 3.4-liter engine with 315 horsepower at 6,700 RPM and 266 lb-ft. at 4,500 RPM. The standard transmission choice for the Boxster 981 will be a six-speed manual, with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch available as an option. Both choices of engine successfully achieve 15 percent better fuel efficiency than the previous generation models. The improved efficiency can also be attributed to the use of an automatic start/stop function, and coasting feature that automatically decouples the engine to prevent an engine braking effect under no throttle input.

Performance is still a selling point in the new Porsche 981 generation Boxster. The standard Boxster model is capable of reaching 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 164 mph with the manual, and a 5.4 to 5.2-second sprint to 60 mph with 162 mph top speed with the PDK transmission. The more powerful Boxster S model can reach 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and a 173 mph top speed with the manual and 4.7 to 4.5-second sprint to 60 mph and reach 172 mph in PDK form with or without the Sport Plus package.

The entire interior of the Porsche 981 Boxster has been redesigned to focus more on the driver. Just like the new Porsche 991 911, the center console is raised, positioning the gearshifter closer to the steering wheel similar to that of the Carrera GT. Facing the driver is a new three-spoke steering wheel and traditional gauge layout. A high-res 4.6-inch TFT color screen is centrally located in the dashboard for complete and intuitive audio, navigation, and communication controls.

Porsche looks to build on the success of the Boxster model with the third-generation, 981-series models. Both models will be launched in mid-April of 2012 around the world. The 2013 Boxster will start at $ 49,500 for the manual and $ 52,700 for the PDK transmission, while the Boxster S will be available for $ 60,900 for the manual and $ 64,100 for PDK.

Limited edition force-fed Ferrari.

Limited edition force-fed Ferrari.

The Ferrari SA Aperta was built to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Pininfarina and limited to just 80 units – all of which are already sold. If you were lucky enough to get your hands on the convertible version of the 599, Novitec Rosso has a supercharged upgrade program that will blow your top off for good.

The V-12 engine of the SA Aperta is already more powerful than the original 599, packing 661 horses stock. But, for a true stallion, Novitec Rosso believed that it needed to have an untamed engine. The German tuning company developed a twin-supercharger system for the 6.0-liter V-12 with dedicated water circuit and larger intercooler system. The twin-mechanical supercharger system includes a custom intake manifold, larger fuel injectors, sports air filters, special exhaust manifold, and software optimization program. To reduce backpressure, Novitec Rosso installed an in-house stainless steel exhaust system with 90 mm black-coated tailpipes and butterfly valves to control the sound.

After the supercharger upgrade, the Novitec Rosso Ferrari SA Aperta can produce 888 horsepower at 8,400 RPM and 636 lb-ft. of torque at 6,600 RPM. Power is sent through the six-speed F1 sequential transmission, propelling the drop-top to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds; 124 mph in 9.1 seconds; and to 186 mph in 21.9 seconds. The top speed is also drastically increased to over 211.27 mph.

In order to handle all of the extra power produced by the supercharged V-12 engine, Novitec Rosso had to install an upgraded Ferrari suspension system and lighter wheels. A set of in-house sport springs designed to work with the factory shocks were installed and lower the ride height by 25 mm for better stability at high speeds. A new front-end lift system can also be installed to clear obstacles. New Novitec Rosso NF4 lightweight forged wheels were installed in a staggered fitment for an athletic stance. Measuring 10J x 21 at the front and 12J x 22 at the rear the five double-spoke wheels weigh in at just 22.9 lbs. and 30.4 lbs. respectively. For better grip, the front pair of wheels were fitted with 295/25 ZR 21 Pirelli PZero tires, while the rear was given 335/25 ZR 22s.

Even though the Ferrari SA Aperta is a special edition dedicated to one of Italy’s most prominent and storied design houses, Novitec Rosso added a few of their own design tweaks to the convertible. A new 599 GTO style front spoiler lip was installed to improve cooling and downforce, new side skirts were added, and a more aggressive rear fascia with spoiler and diffuser were fitted for better aerodynamics. All of the exterior lighting was given a black tint to match the matte carbon fiber bodywork added by Novitec Rosso.

The Novitec Rosso Ferrari SA Aperta is currently available to all 80 of the produced cars. Customers can also choose to upgrade the interior with custom-tailored upholstery. Pricing has not been released.

It’s all about presence.

Mercedes-Benz has just released the new R231-generation of the SL-Class roadster, but the SL R230 isn’t ready to say goodbye just yet. PP Exclusive, the German tuning company, has unveiled a new upgrade program for the R230-generation SL-Class that focuses on three things: deep, wide, and loud.

These three characteristics transform the Mercedes-Benz SL into a new roadster. Both the front and rear axles of the roadster have been widened by 50 mm and 110 mm respectively as part of the PP Exclusive SL tuning program. The widened track is emphasized by two different sets of in-house wheels. The featured wheels, shown in black and chrome, are the PP Exclusive Majestic models, and measure 11 x 20 up front with a 3.5-inch lip, and 13 x 20 at the rear with a massive 5.0-inch lip. On the opposite side are the PP Exclusive Crown Jewel light alloy wheels in the same size with an optional 6.0-inch lip. Each of the wheel designs wear 255/30 R20 front and 305/25 R20 rear Dunlop tires.

In terms of ‘loud’ and ‘deep’, PP Exclusive has designed a new suspension module and exhaust system to transform the SL-Class into an unforgettable roadster. The entire car can be lowered by up to 100 mm thanks to an electronic lowering module that is operated via steering wheel. At any time, the height status of the SL can be checked in the instrument cluster. All of the available engines in the SL-Class can be fitted with a PP Exclusive stainless steel exhaust with four oval-shaped tips in a ‘civil’ or ‘loud’ configuration.

For that exclusive touch, the German tuner has installed a white and black themed interior. Each of the seats were furnished with white Nappa leather with contrasting black stitching, while the sun visors were fitted with black alcantara. The center console and trim pieces have been replaced with vibrant white components to match the overall theme. Facing the driver is a new flat-bottomed steering wheel with alcantara, white stitching, and a black Mercedes-Benz logo for better control.

The entire SL R230 tuning program from PP Exclusive is currently available as a complete package or individual accessories. The Majestic wheels will be available in early 2012 and have just received TÜV certification.

The Porsche 991 loses its top.

The Porsche 991 loses its top.

Shortly after introducing the new Porsche 991, the German automaker has unveiled the latest convertible variant for the new generation of 911 Carrera. The new 991 Porsche Cabriolet utilizes weight-saving technology to make it the most advanced convertible 911 ever made.

The 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet is available in Carrera and Carrera S variants, and is based on the Carrera coupe models. The 991 Porsche Cabriolet is built using an aluminum-steel body and features a newly designed convertible top. The new top is able to retain the same roofline as the coupe but is lighter than any predecessor. Porsche designed the top with a glass rear window and three separate elements integrated into the fabric. Each element is made of magnesium to save weight and retain strength. The fabric top can be electronically opened and closed in just 13 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph.

The new Porsche 991 Cabriolet has a drag coefficient of 0.30, aiding the convertible in becoming an efficient sports car. The 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet models will also come standard with a wind deflector located behind the rear seats to calm airflow and reduce wind noise. The new deflector was designed to save storage space and can be deployed in two seconds, even at maximum speed.

The same 3.4- and 3.8-liter flat-six engines that debuted in the 991-generation Carrera coupes will be used for both 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet models. The 911 Carrera Cabriolet will boast 350 horsepower at 7,400 RPM and 287 lb-ft. at 5,600 RPM, and is capable of accelerating to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds (manual) or 4.6 seconds (PDK). The 911 Carrera S Cabriolet will have 400 horsepower at 7,400 RPM and 325 lb-ft. at 5,600 RPM on tap, and can accelerate to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds (manual) or 4.3 seconds (PDK) and reach top speeds of 187 mph (manual) and 185 mph (PDK).

As with the Carrera and Carrera S Coupe models, both of the Cabriolets will be available with optional driving and performance aids such as PASM, Sport Chrono, and other active control systems.

The 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet will go on sale in Germany on March 3rd, 2012. Prices for the Carrera Cabriolet will start at € 100,532, while the Carrera S Cabriolet will start at € 114,931. Pricing for the United States and other countries has not been announced.

Surfista Silver Star.

Surfista Silver Star.

The newest car to undergo a transformation by DMC Exotic Car Tuning Limited is the Ferrari California. Instead of some flamboyant aero package, the German tuner kept the bodywork to a minimum and focused on creating a thunderous amount of power that turns it into one hot drop-top.

The aerodynamic kit for the DMC 3S Ferrari California is rather subtle. The car was nicknamed “3S” or “Sufista Silver Star” due to the silver carbon fiber that DMC Exotic Car Tuning used to fabricate the body kit. Each piece was designed to conform to the Ferrari California’s design and body shape, and was thoroughly tested in a wind tunnel. The front bumper features a new silver carbon fiber splitter to reduce lift at the front axle. The rear of the California was given a silver carbon fiber diffuser to help keep the car planted on the asphalt and a silver carbon fiber insert was installed on the stock apron.

DMC Exotic Car Tuning also installed a new set of staggered wheels to complement the silver carbon fiber aerodynamic bodywork. The front axle was fitted with a set of ADV1 9J x 21 wheels while the rear was given a pair of 11.5J x 22 wheels with corresponding performance tires.

Although the aerodynamic kit on the DMC Ferrari California 3S is rather quiet in terms of style, the engine is a horsepower monster. The 4.3-liter V-8 engine was fitted with a pair of turbochargers, larger fuel injector nozzles, and a tailor-made crankshaft. The exhaust was also replaced with a full T309 stainless steel unit featuring 200-cell catalytic converters, new X-pipe, and driver-controlled valve system. The result of the modifications is a whopping 598 horsepower, dropping the 0-62 mph acceleration time down to 3.9 seconds and raising the top speed to 202 mph (325 km/h).

The DMC Exotic Car Tuning Ferrari California 3S will be showcased at the Top Marques Macau Show from November 24th to 27th. Pricing and availability of the car and the DMC Ferrari products have not been released.

One sinister V-10.

One sinister V-10.

Wiesmann is one of those boutique car manufacturers that are able to survive because of their nostalgic styling and modern powerplants. They are unique, powerful, and rare, but none are like this.

Schwabenfolia, the car wrapping specialists in Germany, have taken a Wiesmann Roadster and given it a complete matte black makeover. The Roadster, number 9 out of 30 custom-made models was originally outfitted in silver metallic paint. A new matte black car wrap was installed by Scwabenfolia on all body components including the gas tank cover. All of the original Wiesmann logos were also replaced with contrasting chrome units.

The wheels and tires were also replaced to match the new matte black color scheme. New BBS F1 wheels in 10 x 20 front and 11.5 x 20 rear fitments were installed with 285/30 ZR 20 and 325/25 ZR 20 tires for better grip. Each one-piece forged wheel was given a coat of black for a sinister look. Behind the front wheels sit new Brembo six-piston, 380 x 32 mm brakes while the rear uses four-piston calipers and 380 x 28 mm discs.

Wiesmann has been using BMW engines to power their vehicles for quite some time. In the Wiesmann Roadster, a BMW V-10, the same as in the M5, was used. Swiss tuner, Dähler, was given the task of upgrading the engine. The 5.0-liter was given a new exhaust and intake system along with engine and transmission tunes to boost power all the way up to 600 horses. The added power ensures the Roadster is able to reach a top speed of 199 mph, accelerate to 62 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds, and break 124 mph in less than ten.

Schwabenfolia has not released the availability of the custom Wiesmann Roadster. The German company does offer a large variety of car wraps for vehicles in a number of custom finishes.

Drop top VIP style.

Drop top VIP style.

Every year some of the top tuning companies and automotive manufacturers in the world come together in Las Vegas for the SEMA Show. The show is closed to the public and features the latest and greatest in aftermarket tuning and automotive products.

Making an appearance at the 2011 event will be VIP Auto Salon with the Lexus IS 350 C – the convertible version of the sporty sedan. The California-based company aimed to make the convertible a stylish cruiser with performance to boot.

To start things off, a custom carbon fiber aerodynamic body kit was installed featuring all sorts of spoilers and diffusers at the front and rear of the car. A carbon fiber hood was added to shed weight and new headlight housings were installed that utilize VLEDS for better lighting. The fog lights and DRLs were also replaced with HID and LED lights for a more custom appearance. Then, a special K&W Custom Chameleon paint was applied that changes colors depending on the viewpoint, and Huper Optik Ceramic film by STM was installed for a contrasting look.

The Lexus IS 350C was also given a fresh stance. Forged Lexus F Sport 19-inch wheels in a full-face design were fitted and given Michelin Pilot Sport tires for added grip. VIP Auto Salon utilized Lexus F Sport lowering springs, Bilstein shock absorbers, and sway bars for the suspension along with a TOMS shock tower brace.

In terms of performance, the IS 350C may be outclassed by its more powerful IS F sibling, but this SEMA Lexus is anything but a slowpoke. The 3.5-liter V-6 was given a Power Enterprise Rotex Supercharger kit by Apexi and VIP Auto Salon, new PTS Joe Z Series header-back exhaust system, and Apexi Smart Accel Controller for a muscular 386 horsepower at 5,800 RPM and 372 lb-ft. at 5,200 RPM.

The interior of the VIP Auto Salon was given F Sport accessories, custom lighting, and upholstery additions. F Sport floor mats and shift knob were installed along with new LED lighting fixtures. Each seat features custom inserts by Top Stitch.

The VIP Auto Salon Lexus IS 350C will make its debut at SEMA on November 1st through 4th. Pricing and availability details on the accessories have not been released.
