A Gallardo for a growing race series.

The Blancpain Super Trofeo one-make series has grown considerably since its start in 2009 in Europe. The Lamborghini racing series has successfully expanded into the Asian market, seen an increase in the number of participants, and brought in new VIP customers and guests into the Italian brand. The Blancpain Super Trofeo one-make series can be seen in 129 million households in Europe and in 2012 and has expanded into new Asian markets such as Japan, China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.

But a major part of all of the Lamborghini racing series is simply due to the fact that teams get to drive the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo. It’s a stunning car with inspiring performance while providing an even level of competition. In 2012, there were no less than eight different drivers to achieve the pole position, showcasing the parity that makes the series so entertaining to watch.

Now that the 2013 season is inching closer to its start, Lamborghini has unveiled its new 2013 Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo race car. The new model is based on the chassis of the outgoing 2012 model, but features numerous upgrades specifically when it comes to aerodynamics.

The overall design of the 2012 Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo is more aggressive and dynamic after being seeing many of its surface geometries undergo a re-profiling. A new ten-position rear spoiler wing was also installed to give teams greater control over the aerodynamic properties of the race car. The new design and upgrades result in a 120-percent improvement over the 2012 model with the low downforce setup seeing an increase of 282 lbs. and the high downforce setup a 353 lbs. increase.

The brake cooling systems were also revised for better and more reliable cooling. The air ducting system was modified alongside the overall aerodynamics so that thermal performance was improved by 50-percent along with the front brake cooling, resulting in a reduced amount of brake fade.

“We have taken a significant step forward with the aerodynamic performance of the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, but still the car stays true to our core principles,” says Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, Maurizio Reggiani. “We believe that it is important to evolve the car, while ensuring Super Trofeo remains an attractive series in which to compete.”

All of the 2012 Blancpain Super Trofeo European series participants will be given an opportunity to attend an official two-day test of the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo on March 19th and 20th, 2013 in Vallelunga, Italy, prior to the start of the 2013 season. The racing series is also exploring options regarding expansion into the United States market.
