Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon Exposed

Now you can do burnouts and get groceries.

For customers wanting the raw power of a supercharged American V-8 and the cargo space that rivals small and mid-size SUVs, Cadillac has introduced the CTS-V Sport Wagon. The Sport Wagon blends the power and performance from the Nürburgring-tuned CTS-V sedan with the comfort and utility of a luxury wagon.

Differentiating the CTS-V Sport Wagon from the Cadillac model range are a number of powerful exterior design cues. At the front is a mesh grille in a black chrome finish that improves airflow, while a hood bulge eludes to the supercharged powerhouse underneath. The wagon’s sloping roofline and sharp angles add to the dynamic appearance at the rear. Powerful vertical taillamps integrate with the roof spoiler and three-inch dual stainless steel exhaust tips to provide a powerful appearance.

With a wailing supercharger and growling V-8, the Sport Wagon effortlessly paints the road with Michelin rubber. The supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 produces a colossal 556 horsepower and 551 lb-ft. of torque. Fed by an intercooled Eaton Twin Vortices Series™ (TVS™) supercharger, the engine is the most powerful in the history of Cadillac. The supercharger utilizes twin four-lobe rotors twisted 180 degrees, while conventionally superchargers use a three-lobe design twisted 60 degrees. The result is increased efficiency and a decrease in power draw and temperature.

Two different transmissions will be available on the Sport Wagon: a Hydra-Matic 6L90 automatic with steering wheel-mounted shift controls, and a Tremec TR6060 MANUAL with a dual-disc clutch. Enthusiasts are set to rejoice at the offering of a third pedal – expect clouds of tire smoke during the ensuing celebration. To handle the immense torque from the V-8, the Sport Wagon uses a limited-slip rear differential inside a cast iron housing.

Giving the Sport Wagon either a comfortable or firm ride is Cadillac’s Magnetic Ride Control. The shocks are controlled by magneto-rheological technology, as opposed to a traditional mechanical valve system. The technology utilizes sensors at each wheel and makes adjustments to the damping every millisecond, making it the fastest system in the world.

Special 19-inch forged alloy wheels give the Sport Wagon a powerful stance. Measuring 19 x 9 inches at the front and 19 x 9.5 at the rear, the wheels are available in either polished or painted finishes. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires wrap the wheels and offer considerable grip. But, mash the pedal and the rear will disappear in a fog of tire smoke.

Inside the CTS-V Sport Wagon is a classy, yet powerful interior. Performance seats with perforated sueded microfiber inserts are standard, while optional 14-way adjustable Recaro racing seats are available and offer superb side support. Both the steering wheel and shifter provide a sporty feel and are both available in Alcantara. Striking gauges face the driver, showing road speed, engine speed, and also boost pressure. A Bose 5.1 digital surround system and 40 GB hard drive provide rich entertainment (although no music can match the sound of the V-8). The interior is furnished with Obsidian Black accents, while a hand-stitched door trim, instrument panel, and center console provide a luxury atmosphere.

Production of the muscular CTS-V Sport Wagon will start at the end of 2010 for the American market. Prices have not been released.
