The Lotus Elise S Cup R is ready to hit the Track

Lotus Elise S Cup R

Just in time for the Holidays.

You’re a wealthy car enthusiast and want to treat yourself (or maybe a friend) to something special this holiday season. But, what do you buy? Well, the new Lotus Elise Cup R might be the perfect fit if you’re looking to make your mark on the racetrack. The newest track-only sports car from Lotus joins the Exige V6 Cup and Exige V6 Cup R in the Lotus Motorsports lineup and is a lightweight track toy that we would all love to unwrap during the holidays.

The new Lotus Elise S Cup R is based on the 1.6-liter Elise platform and is powered by a supercharged 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE four-cylinder Toyota engine with all sorts of motorsport upgrades. Lotus Motorsports gave the transverse mid-mounted engine a motorsports-specific engine control module (ECM). It’s fed by a Magnuson R900 supercharger and generates a total of 217 horsepower and 181 lb-ft. of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

Part of what makes the Lotus Elise S Cup R so competent on the racetrack is its new CFD-designed aerodynamic package designed to increase downforce, improve cooling, and reduce drag. The kit features a front splitter, barge boards, winglets, floor extensions, and a rear diffuser and wing combo to help keep the racer planted to the asphalt. Even with the extra bodywork, the overall weight of the Lotus Elise S Cup R is only 2,037 lbs. (924 kg).

A great deal of attention was paid to the chassis as well. The Lotus Motorsports team gave the Elise S Cup R a new set of adjustable dampers and springs, upgraded brake pads, forged wheels, and Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 LTS tires in a 175/ 55 R16 front and 225/ 45 R17 rear size.

Inside, the Lotus Elise S Cup R has all of the necessary safety gadgets. The driver is protected by a six-point racing harness and HANS compliant seat, quick-release steering wheel, polycarbonate rear windshield, and FIA compliant roll cage and fire extinguisher.

The Lotus Elise S Cup R is a full four seconds faster on a five-kilometer lap than its standard production variant. The car will be eligible for the production class in the 2014 Lotus Cup Series worldwide.

You also won’t have to wake up at 3:00 AM on Black Friday to get this deal either. The Lotus Elise S Cup R is currently available with bespoke livery for £39,125 (+/- 62,635 USD). The car will come complete with a bespoke color and trim set courtesy of the Lotus Design team.
