Rebellion Predator Chrono Mono-Pusher – Wednesday Watch

Rebellion is the brand that introduced the T-1000 at last year’s BaselWorld exhibition. With a power reserve of no less than 1000 hours, it appeared on many Top Lists of 2010’s most impressive watches. Rebellion is a brand that has a close relationship to motor racing and the car industry. Using high-tech materials and solutions for their cases and movements, it is a popular brand amongst aficionados of both racing cars and haute horlogerie.

This year, Rebellion will be presenting at least two new models during BaselWorld exhibition (which takes place from the 24th – 31st March 2011). The REB-5 Tourbillion and Predator Chrono Mono-Pusher are this year’s novelties, and MotoringExposure will highlight the latter.

Based on last year’s Predator model, also a chronograph with the same base movement (caliber RE-1), Rebellion now introduces the mono-pusher version of this timepiece. This means the winding crown features another pusher on top of it, to operate the chronograph. The first press will activate the chronograph, the second press will stop the chronograph and a third press activates the reset mechanism.

The Rebellion Predator Chrono Mono-Pusher has an industrial look, with its 8 screws that keep the bezel in place and the honeycomb dial resembling the air intakes of many sports cars.

Of course, we can only judge this watch when we see it in the flesh at next month’s show in Switzerland. However, we are already impressed by the looks of it and its specifications. We have yet to learn its retail price, but if Rebellion is capable of keeping it below the $20,000 mark, it will become an interesting competitor to some of the sitting classics like the Royal Oak.

The automatic winding chronograph movement has a power reserve of 50 hours and ticks at 28,800 beats per hour. Rebellion’s caliber RE-1 is an in-house developed movement. A power reserve indicator enables the owner of this watch to check whether he should wind it, or wear it in order to keep it running.

With a water resistance of 100 meters (10 ATM), the Predator Chrono Mono-Pusher is one of the few mono pusher chronographs that can be used under water. And its 48mm diameter watch case will not look bad with a diving suit either. The black rubber strap is an added water-friendly feature.

Rebellion will introduce this watch in various materials and combinations, like steel or steel/ceramic, red gold or red gold/ceramic. A nice bonus detail is that the honeycomb dial has been DLC’ed (Diamond Like Carbon).
