Orange Crush Time with the 2014 SRT Viper TA (Time Attack)

Crusher Orange SRT Viper TA

Time to conquer the race track in Crusher Orange.

Part of what makes the Viper such an iconic car is its racing heritage that it built in the 1990s and 2000s as they came in and just dominated many in many racing series. The new SRT Viper that was unveiled at the 2012 New York International Auto Show and that racing DNA that was created decades ago was ever present beneath the new snakeskin. Now, SRT is showing off a little more of that DNA with the new 2014 SRT Viper TA (Time Attack).

The new SRT Viper TA is a limited-production model that has been fine-tuned using numerous SRT accessories and a bit of elbow-grease-engineering to create a super car that is built to tackle road courses with ease.

“The new 2014 SRT Viper TA is being engineering for the dedicated track enthusiast, who still wants to drive to the track and take their hobby to the next level” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. “We’re re-launching some of the fastest production-built cars that people can buy straight from the factory. Our engineers revised the suspension settings to refocus the Viper specifically for track duty, using a blend of components from the GTS and the SRT models, add in the extensively developed aero package and the new Time Attack package is born. We’re not only saluting the existing capabilities of our current models, we’re also targeting another niche in our customer base with a tremendously capable track machine.”

Beneath the vibrant Crusher Orange exterior paint sits the large 8.4-liter V-10 engine that spits out the most torque from any naturally-aspirated production engine in the world. The engine and its 640 bhp and 600 lb-ft. of torque remain unchanged save for a lightweight carbon fiber brace that increases torsional rigidity in the engine bay by 50-percent over the standard aluminum brace.

But the new SRT Viper TA is about more than that; it’s about going around the race track in the fastest way possible and the SRT team had quite a few tricks up their sleeves to accomplish that goal. The suspension uses a two-mode Bilstein Damptronic suspension with firmer levels of damping and less of a variation between driving modes while the shock dampers, springs, and motorsport-designed stabilizer bars were all tuned for the race track in order to extract the most performance from the Viper’s 50:50 weight distribution, low center of gravity, and 3,348 lb curb weight.

In addition to the suspension tuning, SRT has upgraded the Viper TA with new shoes and brakes to ensure the super car can be pushed to its limit on the track. Engineers from SRT and Brembo collaborated to create a new braking system that has greater thermal capacity and improved heat dissipation for unyielding stopping power. Each caliper will wear a black anodized finish with Crusher Orange Viper logo. The suspension was designed to take maximum advantage of the new Pirelli PZero Corsa tires for even greater amounts of grip. The high-performance tires are fitted to ultralight forged Sidewinder II wheels in matte black with a unique split-spoke design.

While the Crusher Orange paint grabs most of the attention from onlookers, new carbon fiber components subtly show what the Viper SRT TA was made to do on the track. SRT designed an advanced aerodynamics package that includes a carbon fiber rear spoiler in the shape of a dual-fin, front splitters, and a rear appliqué to create a wider rear appearance. The Stryker logo stares ahead on the front bumper in matte black while two black Viper logos are worn on each of the front fenders.

Inside, things will be focused on business. Lightweight Sabelt racing fiberglass seats with ballistic fabric are used and can be fitted with three- or six-point harnesses. Standard in the Viper TA is a black interior with Crusher Orange stitching is featured on the seats, instrument panel, console, steering wheel, upper doors, shift boot, and other parts to match the exterior color scheme.

The new 2014 SRT Viper TA (Time Attack) will be unveiled at the 2013 New York International Auto Show on March 27th, a year after the first SRT Vipers graced the same stage in the Big Apple. Only 33 Viper TA models will be produced at the Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit and be available in the third quarter of 2013.
