When car enthusiasts come together to support a great cause.
Summer always goes out with a bang in Glen Cove, New York. Since 2009, automotive enthusiasts have gathered in the beautiful Long Island town center to raise money for the Diabetes Research Institute, marking a fantastic end to the summer car show season. Gold Coast Concours/Bimmerstock has grown considerably in its five years, thanks to the efforts of Joe LaPadula, Martino Auto Concepts, and Exotics4Life.com.
The 2013 5th Annual Gold Coast Concours/Bimmerstock was nothing short of spectacular. Thousands of automotive enthusiasts gathered in Glen Cove’s downtown business district to view over 600 cars on display and raise money for the Diabetes Research Institute.
For the past few years, a clear blue sky and warm sun has provided the perfect atmosphere for Gold Coast Concours/Bimmerstock and the hundreds of sports cars and supercars on display. Everything from custom Porsches, Lamborghinis, and Ferraris to BMWs and old-school American muscle were on display, with exotic exhaust notes singing in the background. Highlights included the Lola T70 with Sunoco livery, a Spyker C8 Spyder, Lexus LFA, Lincoln Continental, SRT Viper GTS, and even a stanced children’s car.
All of the photography for the show was made possible by the Nokia Lumia 1020 and its 41-megapixel camera sensor. Nokia was kind enough to send us a phone for the event and we took advantage of its high-tech, camera with PureView technology, Optical Image Stabilization and high-resolution zoom to allow us to capture the cars at the show. Its high-resolution camera proved to be extremely easy-to-use and allowed for on-the-fly editing and uploading. The Lumia 1020 offers photo buffs a Nokia Pro Camera system that allows for the shutter speed, focus, white balance, exposure compensation, and more to be adjusted just like a digital SLR. For those that aren’t photo-savvy, the Lumia 1020’s Nokia Pro Camera offers a brilliant automatic system that makes taking pictures a breeze. After the pictures are taken, Nokia’s Creative Studio gives users the ability to apply a wide range of effects to any photo such as collages, red-eye reduction, color filters, color pop, and blur. It’s like having Adobe Photoshop in the palm of your hand.
Photographing the hundreds of sports cars and supercars was smooth and effortless. The bright, sunny environment was easily compensated for by the Lumia 1020 and its easy-to-use display made getting the perfect shot quick and simple. If, on the off chance that a bad photo was taken, I could easily zoom-in and reframe the high-resolution photo seamlessly without sacrificing detail. Since the MotoringExposure twitter was automatically synced up in the Windows Phone 8 operating system, I was easily able to upload some of the pictures instantly for all of our fans to enjoy.
The 5th Annual Gold Coast Concours/Bimmerstock proved to be a huge success. Over $79,000 was raised for the Diabetes Research Institute and the event has grown into one of the biggest on the East Coast. Vendors and participants from around the country all made the event one of the highlights of 2013.
