Recently on MotoringExposure we featured the new Porsche 911 app for the iPhone. Now, Porsche, in collaboration with Research In Motion, has decided to take their mobile phone experience a step further with the new Porsche Design P’9981 Blackberry.
“Since 1972 Porsche Design has presented milestone products with iconic style, and the P’9981 smart phone from BlackBerry will be our next landmark,” said Dr. Juergen Gessler, CEO Porsche Design Group. “The pure and distinctive design, coupled with authentic materials and an emphasis on the manufacturing process, perfectly match our philosophy and complement the Porsche Design product assortment.”
The new Porsche phone from Blackberry was given an extensive Porsche Design treatment. The frame of the phone is made from forged stainless steel and the back wears a soft hand-wrapped black leather cover. The sculpted QWERTY keyboard features a clean design and the classic Porsche font. The clear touch screen display with 24-bit high-resolution uses Liquid Graphics™ to provide users with a responsive touch experience.
“This collaboration stems from the shared belief that form equals function,” said Todd Wood, SVP for Industrial Design, Research In Motion. “The Porsche Design Blackberry P’9981 is a truly modern luxury smart phone, where the timeless style of Porsche Design meets the unmatched mobile experience provided by BlackBerry.”
The Porsche Blackberry will utilize the latest mobile phone technology. At the heart of the Porsche Design P’9981 Blackberry is a 1.2 GHz processor with a standard 8GB of memory that can be expanded to 40GB with a micro SD memory card. The BlackBerry® 7 operating system will provide users with a modern approach to mobile technology and feature the latest Blackberry browser. An HD-video recording system will also come standard along with exclusive PINs to identify other Porsche Design P’9981Blackberry phones.
The Porsche Design P’9981 Blackberry phone will be available at all Porsche Design retailers at the end of 2011. Pricing for the Porsche Design Blackberry phone has not been released.
