The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design in North America has presented the Aston Martin One-77 with the 2009 Good Design TM award.
Founded in 1950 Chicago by architects Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, and Edgar Kaufmann Jr., the Good Design award honors innovation, originality, and conceptions that push the boundaries of product and consumer design. An international jury of design experts, architects, and cultural leaders award designs in categories varying from transportation to children’s products – anything from a “city to a spoon.”
The One-77, aka “Aston Martin 177” received the accolade for its invention and originality, new and innovative product concept, and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered ordinary product and consumer design. The heritage and craftsmanship that Aston Martin is recognized for is demonstrated in the design of the One-77, meshing classic British design with modern beauty. Exclusive performance and sophisticated style radiate through its athletic presence and attention to detail.
Other notable recipients of the award in the Transportation category are: the Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss 2007-2008, Manned Mars Exploration Rover 2008-2030, BAVARIA Cruiser 55 2008-2009, and “Talent 2” Electrical Passenger Train 2007-2008.
Only 77 examples will be produced with deliveries starting mid-2010. Each of the 77 examples will be individually numbered and priced at approximately £1,020,000.
