Aston Martin V12 Zagato Prepares for the Nürburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race

Taking back the racetrack just as the original DB4GT did 50 years ago.

The new Aston Martin V12 Zagato was a collaboration between Italian coachbuilder Zagato and Aston Martin that celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the DB4GT, the original partnership between the two companies. And, just as the DB4GT took to the track against the Ferrari GT cars half a century ago, the new Aston Martin Zagato will make its return at the 51st ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen VLN5 four-hour race on Saturday, June 11th.

Two of the new Aston Martin V12 Zagatos will participate in the race as a preparation for the upcoming Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race during the 25th and 26th of June. The first team will be headed by Aston Martin CEO, Dr. Ulrich Bez, along with Nürburgring Test Centre Director, Wolfgang Schuhbauer, and Amateur Racer, Peter Cate. The second car will be driven by Chief One-77 Engineer, Chris Porritt, Sports Car Driver, Oliver Mathai, and Automotive Journalist, Richard Meaden. The race on the 25.378 km (15.8 mile) track will be used to familiarize the drivers and fine-tune the car before the big 24 Hour endurance race.

Earlier this year, the Aston Martin Zagato won the Concorso d’Eleganza Design Award for Concept Cars and Prototypes at the 2011 Villa D’Este Concours. The ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen VLN5 will start at noon Central European Time on Saturday June 11th. Both cars will participate in the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race from June 25th to the 26th.

Update – The two V12 Aston Martin Zagato racecars have finished 2nd and 3rd in class at the Nurburgring in the ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen VLN5.
