wheelsandmore sheds weight and adds power with the Audi R8 GT Supersport

More power + less weight = More fun.

The Audi R8 GT is the lightest and most powerful street-legal R8 model from Audi. Engineers worked to cut over 200 lbs. of unnecessary weight from the super car, tuned the 5.2-liter V-10 for more power, and added a few track-day goodies to create the enthusiasts’ R8. wheelsandmore looked at this as somewhat of a challenge; to cut weight and increase performance even further.

To start things off, wheelsandmore, did what it does best and installed new wheels. The stock forged wheels were replaced with lightweight and handcrafted three-piece forged wheels with six spokes, a matte black face, and contrasting titanium screws. Measuring a staggered 9.5 x 20 up front and 11 x 20 at the rear, the forged wheels are fitted with 245/30/20 front and 295/25/20 rear Continental Sport Contact 5P tires. To further improve handling, the newest KW-Automotive LCS suspension was installed. The hydraulic suspension system can be raised up to 40 mm to prevent damage from obstacles, and also features adjustable rebound and compression damping.

While the new wheels and suspension worked to improve handling, wheelsandmore still wanted to increase power and reduce weight. Their new R8 tuning program killed two birds with one stone. A new remote-controlled stainless steel exhaust with valve flaps was installed and weighed 40 percent less than the stock system. The engine control unit was also optimized and helped push the total output to 611 horsepower and 431 lb-ft. (585 Nm) of torque. The added power helps the Audi R8 GT accelerate to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h).

wheelsandmore was able to take the track-day Audi R8 GT to another level of performance by cutting weight and adding power. The entire Supersport program is currently available from the German tuner as a complete kit or individual accessories. Pricing has not been released.
