Porsche gives us a glimpse into the future of Motorsport

Racing towards the future.

Motorsport has always played an important role in Porsche’s storied history. At the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt, Hartmut Kristen, Head of Porsche Motorsport, explained the relationship between motorsports and product development.

The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is the closest production model to a racecar that Porsche offers. Not only does it have a 4.0-liter flat-six engine that is very closely related to the unit used in the RSR racecars, but it also utilizes the same aerodynamic philosophy and suspension design.

As for the future of Porsche Motorsport, the German automaker is looking to return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a new LMP1 model. Porsche will also continue with the development of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid to further improve hybrid and racing technology. Much of the new technology has, and will, find its way into lineup with models such as the Porsche 991 911.
