2010 Jaguar XJ Exposed

Jaguar ushers in a new era with an XJ that exemplifies British class and character.

The 2010 Jaguar XJ draws upon a legacy of elegant British automobiles, and is inspired by the original Jaguar XJ and Mk2. With a design team headed by the renowned Ian Callum, the new XJ became an automobile that is described by Callum as being “a thoroughly modern interpretation of the quintessential Jaguar.” A prominent mesh grille with slim xenon headlights creates a strong forward presence, while a dramatic beltline flows to the rear giving the impression of length. The clean silhouette stems from the teardrop shape of the side windows and contributes to the elegant coupe-like profile. A drag coefficient of just 0.29 is the result of the streamlined design, making it one of the most aerodynamic models in the Jaguar lineup. A clean, sculpted rear proudly displays a leaping Jaguar, with rear LED taillights that flow gracefully.

The sumptuous cabin of the XJ is second to none in the segment, with rich styling and cultivated British taste. A handsome wood veneer wraps around the cabin from the rear doors, meeting at the front of the car, producing a warm and inviting environment. Eight different mirror-matched wood veneers, carbon fiber, and piano black finishes are available along with a large palette of bold soft-grain leather and trim colors. At the center of the instrument panel is an analog clock. Inspired by fine wristwatches, the clock features a spun metal face, individual chrome chaplets, and an iridescent blue background that coincides with the phosphor blue interior lighting. The panoramic glass roof slides outwards giving the impression of a spacious atmosphere.

Greeting the driver is the JaguarDrive Selector, that rises from the center console to give the prestigious Jaguar “handshake.” A virtual instrument cluster using a 12.3-inch high definition screen, displays a digital speedometer, rev counter, and information window. At the heart of the center console sits an 8-inch touch screen allowing the driver to control many of the functions of the XJ. The driver can also control functions with the use of Jaguar’s Interactive Voice control system. Standard for the XJ is a CD/DVD player, HD radio, and Sirius satellite radio, with a hard-disc-drive (HDD) system allowing for music and other information to be easily stored. A premium Bowers & Wilkins 1200-watt surround sound system, featuring 20 speakers and 15 channels the system is standard on the supercharged models. For the first time in the automotive industry, the XJ employs Dolby® Pro Logic IIx technology immersing the cabin in a symphony of sound.

Giving the 2010 Jaguar XJ the purr of a true Jaguar are three new V-8 engines using direct injection to increase power and efficiency. The Supersport XJ model will receive the roar of the 510 hp, supercharged 5.0-liter V-8, while the Supercharged model will feature 470 hp. The naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 will feature a strong 385 hp, with all engines meeting the strict EU5 and US ULEV2 emissions standards. A new lightweight, aerospace-inspired aluminum bodyshell is 300 lbs. lighter than the competition, allowing for increased performance, safety, and fuel efficiency. Jaguar’s electronically controlled, six-speed automatic transmission provides fluid gear changes and can be manually controlled through the Jaguar Sequential Shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel. Three different driving modes are available through JaguarDrive Control, Normal, Dynamic, and Winter. Each setting adjusts engine, transmission, and suspension settings to optimize performance and comfort in every driving situation. Dynamic mode sharpens the suspension and optimizes engine and transmission performance while changing the color of the instrument dial, giving the XJ athletic performance.

The 2010 Jaguar XJ is currently available with deliveries starting at the beginning of 2010. Pricing will start at $72,500 for the base model, with the range topping, extended wheelbase XJL Supersport starting at $115,000.
