Continuing the 30-year tuning tradition.
Since the Audi 80 back in the mid-1980s, ABT Sportsline has been working on upgrading and modifying the mid-size models from the German automaker. The introduction of the A4 in 1994 saw ABT continue its efforts with every generation since, all the way up to today’s B9-generation model with the new ABT AS4.
“The A4 is certainly mainly responsible for the company’s growth and for us always has been very important as well,” said Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of ABT Sportsline. “The A4 is the benchmark among medium-sized premium cars and for us a challenge we have always liked rising to.”
For the new B9-generation Audi A4 models, the German tuner have given both the 2.0-liter gasoline and 3.0-liter turbodiesel engines the full ABT Power “New Generation” upgrade for better performance. The turbocharged inline-four motor gets a boost up to 330 horsepower and 325 lb-ft. of torque with the upgrade. The oil-burning V-6 on the other hand, goes up to 325 horsepower and 502 lb-ft. of torque.
The added power is handled by a new range of ABT Sportsline wheels. The AS4 can be outfitted with DR, ER-C, or FT wheels in 8.5 x 19, 8.5 x 20, or 9.0 x 20 sizes with corresponding high-performance Continental tires for even more grip. The new Audi A4 Avant also gets a significant handling boost thanks to height-adjustable suspension springs.
Visually, the ABT Sportsline AS4 is more impressive and commanding thanks to new aerodynamics and styling. The front fascia features a new lip add-on spoiler sitting beneath a grille add-on with inlet panels, and chrome grille emblem. New ‘ABT’ fender inserts with three-fin vents add some visual athleticism. The rear also benefits from a new skirt insert that integrates the newly-installed muffler with quad tips.
The final touch for the ABT Sportsline AS4 can be found in the interior. Here, the German company added in a new set of door entrance lights that illuminate with the ABT logo, while floor and trunk mats clean things up visually.
The new ABT Sportsline AS4 based on the B9-generation model is just the start of what you can expect from the current-generation of Audi models from the German tuner. Each upgrade can be purchased individually or as a complete package.
