The Porsche 918 Spyder is the pinnacle of engineering, technology, and performance for the German automaker. Every single aspect of the hybrid supercar has been meticulously engineered, researched, and constructed with a purpose. It’s hard to think that such a vehicle could be improved upon, but HRE Performance Wheels was able to in more ways than one with their P101 forged wheels.
Weight for any supercar is a priority in order to achieve maximum performance, but it was something that Porsche strove to attain in every nook and cranny. Even the traditional, high-revving 4.6-liter V-8 engine tips the scales at just about 300 lbs. The addition of a hybrid powertrain with its batteries and electric motors, while incredibly advanced, is still a hefty thing to carry. So, Porsche engineers were forced to cut weight anywhere they could. They were able to do so without sacrificing much in terms of comfort and technology so that it tips the scales at just 3,700 lbs. (3,620 lbs. with optional Weissach package).
That dedication to keeping weight to a minimum helped the powerful hybrid drivetrain and responsive chassis shine like never thought possible. HRE Performance Wheels was able to build upon that even further with their lightweight monoblock P101 forged wheels.
Made from aerospace-grade 6061-T6 forged aluminum alloy, the HRE P101 wheels are incredible strong, yet very light. The high strength-to-weight ratio achieved from the forged metal alloy construction, side cuts, and backpad pocketing makes the monoblock wheels perfect for high-performance applications like the Porsche 918 Spyder where strength and weight are key contributors to their overall performance.
On this Porsche 918 Spyder, the HRE P101 forged wheels were installed in a staggered 9.5 x 20 front and 12.5 x 21 rear setup to keep a wide footprint. Grip-inducing 265/35-20 front and 325/30-21 rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires help to carve up corners like nobody’s business. Each one of the HRE P101 wheels was given a slick Brushed Dark Clear finish to complement the factory paint scheme and help the vibrant green brake calipers stand out.
The new HRE P101 don’t just add to the overall look and styling of the Porsche 918 Spyder, they also improve upon the supercar’s performance. With the factory forged wheels tipping the scales at 25- and 30 lbs. for the front and rear sizes, respectively, HRE Performance Wheels was able to undercut that with P101s that weight just 21- and 26 lbs., each. That lends to better performance in virtually every aspect of the supercar along with a better driving experience.
It might be hard to fathom, but the Porsche 918 Spyder just got better thanks to HRE Performance Wheels.
