Introducing Manufacture Rodolphe Cattin – Wednesday Watch

Even though you are a regular reader of Motoring Exposure’s Wednesday Watch articles, you probably have never heard of Rodolphe Cattin. Let’s change that once and for all.

Rodolphe Cattin was on the creative team for the Swatch Group (which also spearheads brands like Blancpain, Omega, Breguet, Rado, Longines etc.) and later on associated with Franck Muller for a couple of years.

Fast forward to December 2010, and Rodolphe Cattin has decided to get back in the game with his own brand, MRC (Manufacture Rodolphe Cattin). Bringing all his creativity and long time experience into his new line-up of watches for men and women, Rodolphe Cattin immediately introduces a few new collections.

For women, there are the Utopia and Adore collections with mother-of-pearl dials and ball-like designed lugs replacing the more conventional horns (to attach a strap or bracelet). The Utopia, like the Adore models, has a quartz movement and a polished square shaped case with 184 diamonds (a total of 1.75 carats). The Adore timepieces have an 18ct pink gold sofa-shaped case and are significantly smaller than the Utopia timepieces. They come with a satin strap and a pink gold folding clasp. Utopia watches have an attached alligator strap, with a stainless steel folding clasp.

For men, Manufacture Rodolphe Cattin introduces the Witness collection. With a 100% in-house mechanical automatic movement featuring a skeleton tourbillon, Manufacture Rodolphe Cattin puts their new line of watches on the haute horlogerie-map. The 18kt white gold case has a diameter of 45mm and is covered with a domed sapphire crystal.

Unlike many other haute horlogerie brands these days, MCR focuses a bit more on ladies’ watches rather than men’s watches (60/40 ratio).

According to their press release, all new models will be introduced in January at an appropriate venue. We guess Manufacture Rodolphe Cattin will be holding an exhibition in a hotel or other building close to the SIHH 2011 or GTE 2011 events in Geneva next month.

Prices of MCR watches have not been published yet.
