Sixty years ago, Sergio Pininfarina partnered with Ferrari and his company has collaborated with the Prancing Horses since. It’s a partnership that has left its mark on iconic vehicles such as the 288 GTO, F40, 308, 410 Superamerica, and many others from Maranello. To celebrate the collaboration, the two companies have collaborated to create a limited run of just six Ferrari Sergio roadsters that bear the name of the original architect of the partnership six decades ago.

The first Ferrari Sergio made its debut at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit, meeting its new owner, the SBH Royal Auto Gallery in the UAE. The Ferrari Sergio is limited to just six units, each being custom-tailored and configured by their owners at dedicated sessions at the Tailor Mate atelier in Maranello.

Based on the Ferrari 458 Spider, the Ferrari Sergio retains a great deal of technological and mechanical characteristics of the factory Spider model, but the similarities start to end there. Pininfarina designed the true open-top to be radical and focused on performance while delivering a sense of athleticism and pure driving pleasure from behind the wheel. The latest version of the naturally-aspirated 4.5-liter V-8 engine found in the 458 Is used and produces 605 horsepower, allowing the Sergio to reach 62 mph in just 3.0 seconds from rest.

The design of the Ferrari Sergio reminisces of golden era Ferraris from the 1960s and 70s, while also moving towards the future. The proportions have been emphasized with the front and rear almost melting into each other as they push in opposite directions, visually. The front and rear bodyshell masses are connected by a longitudinal black insert, forming the main styling cue of the supercar’s design. The same element carries over to each flank to both separate and connect the two parts of the car.

A classic roll-bar that is part of the rear bodyshell pays homage to the Ferrari flying buttress and negative rear window. The design is also functional, as seen with the clutch and gearbox oil cooling air intakes being integrated into the roll-bars by Pininfarina. A semi-floating spoiler up front beneath the hood also helps to add downforce for the Ferrari Sergio and keep it balanced at high speeds while a nolder and extractor keep things calm at the rear.

The formal purity of the Ferrari Sergio is evident in the headlights and taillights, the former of which were melded into a single transparent transverse element while the latter’s circular design is a modern take on a classic Ferrari design. The two-tone color scheme is featured throughout the front and rear and above the engine hood where circular elements dominate each of the sides. The finishing element for the first example of the Ferrari Sergio are exclusive gold-colored, diamond-finished forged wheels.

Inside, functionality and performance were key design characteristics of which Pininfarina focused. The engine compartment contours to the two front seats, that in this example wear black leather upholstery with contrasting red stitching and Alcantara inserts. The same leather and stitching combination dominates most of the cockpit along with carbon fiber dashboard and door trim.

This triple-layer red Ferrari Sergio is the first of six examples that will be custom-tailored and built for owners around the globe. Each detail and aspect of the supercar is exclusive to each owner and made entirely to suit.
