ABT Sportsline Gets ‘400’ with the new Golf R

All the right stuff.

The Volkswagen Golf VII R is the hottest hatch available from the German automaker. It’s the go-to in the hot hatch game and the team at ABT Sportsline is making it sizzle even more. Thanks to their “New Generation” tuning and a whole lot of other goodies, the Golf R is a 400 PS all-wheel drive monster.

“Even with this alluring power, the Golf can be driven with absolute precision and shows the potential of the platform”, says CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt. “Our new height adjustable suspension kit and stabilizer kit guarantee perfect handling – event at high speed.”

Under the hood, the Volkswagen Golf R’s 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine gets quite the boost from ABT Sportsline. The new ABT Power S kit gives the engine an additional 100 PS (98.6 hp) – almost a third of its original output. That’s good for a total of 400 PS (395 horsepower) and 354 lb-ft. of torque hitting the pavement through all four wheels. As an option, a less powerful ABT Power tune is also available with 370 PS. A set of four 102 mm exhaust pipes and ABT muffler system is also available to make the additional power audible.

Putting down that power are new choices of wheels for the Golf R. ABT Sportsline offers their FR, ER-C, CR, and DR (featured) alloy wheels with a variety of finishes ranging from 18.0- to 20-inch diameters with 8.5- or 9.0-inch widths with corresponding sport tires. A new ABT height-adjustable suspension brings the wheels closer to the fenders by 10 to 40 mm up front and 20 to 45 mm at the rear axle. A new front and rear axle stabilizer kit also helps to sharpen up handling even further.

The ABT-tuned Volkswagen Golf R also distinguishes itself elsewhere, particularly in its new aerodynamic add-ons. A new painted front grille and headlight covers lend to a meaner, aftermarket look. New side skirts add a bit of dynamicism while new mirror covers take a page out of Audi’s S/RS book with their contrasting aluminum-like finish. A new tailgate add-on coupled with a set of “Black Chrome” logos further set it apart from its factory form.

The interior of the Golf R wasn’t the focus for ABT Sportsline, but it also wasn’t completely neglected. The cockpit was given a new integrated entrance light and set of floor mats for a more custom-tailored touch.

The new ABT Sportsline Volkswagen Golf R is currently available as a complete package or customers can purchase individual accessories.
