Lumma Design tunes the BMW E71 X6

More “sport” for the Sports Activity Coupe.

When the BMW E71 X6 went into production in 2008 it was met with mixed reviews because of its impracticality and design. Since then it has sold more than 100,000 units, making it a successful model in the BMW lineup. Soon after it was introduced, Lumma Design created the CLR X 650 for the X6 M that gave the Sport Activity Coupe (SAC) 650 horsepower. Now, the German tuner has turned its focus to the non-M models with the new BMW X6 tuning program.

The controversial design of the X6 is now even more conspicuous with the new Lumma Design components. The front is fitted with a new front spoiler and enlarged air inlets to help cool the engine and brakes, LED daytime running lamps and lighting, and headlight “eyebrows.” A new carbon fiber hood was also installed and alludes to the added power hidden underneath. All of the fenders, wheel arches, and side skirts have been replaced with more muscular and wider bodywork for added presence. At the rear, the X6 wears a new apron with integrated diffuser, spoiler lip, and new down-turned taillights. Finishing off the design are new matte black frames for the front grille and striping that runs from the headlights to the rear spoiler.

But what would the exterior design package be without a new set of wheels? Lumma Design has fitted new CLR Racing wheels in a 10 x 22 front and 12 x 22 rear fitment with 295/30/22 and 335/25/22 tires. Behind the new double-spoke wheels are yellow brake calipers. Although the BMW X6 already sits low for a crossover, new suspension upgrades have been installed and lower the SAC by 40 mm (1.5 in.).

The BMW X6 xDrive40d straight-six turbodiesel engine receives a power upgrade from Lumma Design. The 3.0-liter diesel makes 306 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. stock, and with the Lumma Design “d-box” increases output to 340 horsepower and a monstrous 494 lb-ft. of torque. For the gasoline models, Lumma offers a power module that improves throttle response for better acceleration. Customers can also order a new exhaust system with 4 x 100 mm black tailpipes for both the diesel and gasoline models.

The interior of the X6 is equally as extravagant as the exterior. The driver is greeted with an ergonomically designed sports steering wheel, aluminum pedals with anti-slip rubber, and illuminated door sills. All of the seats are covered in two-tone leather with contrasting stitching. The four seats have been given carbon fiber backs and matching seat belts, and the rear bench has been replaced with individual sport seats. A packet boat and set of floor mats with leather bordering complete the interior transformation.

The complete Lumma Design BMW E71 X6 tuning program is currently available from the German tuner. Pricing has not been released.
